LoL Lore Re-Imagined: The Legend of Shurima Pt. 3
And here's the third part to my narrative. If you haven't already, you may want to read the first two parts, just for context. I'd just like to clarify that I am not presenting this as the REAL lore that Riot envisioned. I simply did my research on these champions and their stories and gave them a more coherent arc. Let me know if you like this and if I should see this through to the end. I've got some great ideas. Enjoy!
Now, however, with Shurima’s dominance firmly in place, conflict was far and few between and he was subjected to dealing with trifles such as this ill-conceived assassination attempt. He opened his jaws in a mock yawn, taking extra time to display his gaping mouth and rows of deadly teeth that resided inside. “Remind me again of what it is you’re delivering?” His voice rumbled through the air and grated the men’s ears like steel on rock.
“We are delivering meats and spices for you emperor. He has used our services before, so I’m sure at least some of his servants will recognize us.” The driver tried to keep his composure, but he still trembled with fear.
“Ah, of course,” sighed Renekton, “I was indeed made aware of your arrival. If you wouldn’t mind though, I would like to inspect your goods first.“ He pushed off the gates and slowly approached the cart. His shadow passed over the driver followed by the immense blade strapped to his back. The other men shifted away from him as he stopped alongside the cart and opened one of the crates. “Can’t be too careful, and besides, I haven’t eaten in days.” With that, he grasped a piece of raw meat and flung it into his mouth. Almost immediately, the meat was eviscerated and became little more than a bloody pulp. In just two bites, Renekton swallowed his snack and drew his tongue across his teeth, with deliberate slowness. “Ah, that is quality meat. I can see why my emperor favors your goods.”
The driver was terrified as he stared at those long pointed teeth. “Y-yes well, thank you. So you’ll let us in?”
“Now there’s the problem.” Renekton stood to his full height. With him standing this close, the men could easily make out the contours of his muscle underneath the sheen of his scales. “You see, I’m something of an expert on food items. Especially meat. Light meat, dark meat, its all the same to me. And I can tell whether or not meat is good for human consumption, since I can digest almost anything.” The driver’s face went pale and the others shifted anxiously in their seats. “So tell me…” Renekton let his gaze fall on each of them in turn. He saw the fear in their eyes and could even hear the blood rushing through their veins. “What kind of spices do you use, that requires the poisonous extracts of plants?” And with that the men were rendered speechless. Renekton did love seeing humans cower before him. “Honestly, could you not develop a more elaborate plan? Stowing away poison-tipped weapons as you passed through, hoping to get close enough to the emperor, and then poisoning your meat as a fail-safe?” If the men were speechless before, they might as well have been mute at this point. Out of nowhere, one of them drew his dagger and lunged towards Renekton. Pathetic. Renekton grabbed the man’s outstretched arm and held him level so their eyes met. “I suppose now you could at least say you tried to take out the mighty Butcher. If you weren’t about to die.” He opened his jaws and slowly approached the man’s head. He screamed and tried desperately to loosen Renekton’s hold on him while the others watched in horror, frozen by fear.
“That is enough, Renekton.”
A voice resonated in Renekton’s mind, a voice he was none too pleased to hear at that moment. “Must you always ruin my enjoyment, brother,” he said aloud.
“If it involves the needless loss of life, then yes, I must. Do not try my patience.”
“These morsels came here with the intent of killing our emperor. You expect me to let them leave unpunished for that treason?” The men were still scared witless and Renekton’s conversation with no one didn’t help matters.
“I have already dispatched soldiers to their hideout and memorized their faces. They will not get near the palace ever again. There is no need for blood shed.”
Renekton growled under his breath and released his captive. The shaking man scrambled back to the cart and the driver turned around. Before they could bolt off, Renekton grabbed the back of the cart and rumbled, “Let this be a message to all would-be traitors; if anyone threatens the emperor’s life or the integrity of Shurima, they will meet the edge of my blade.” He released the cart and it began to move away. Then again, it only takes one to deliver a message. He lunged forward with his blade drawn and in one clean slice, decapitated the three men in back. The driver screamed in horror and whipped the beasts into a frenzy. They charged off in panic with Renekton yelling after them, “Who’s next on the chopping block?” The sudden momentum of the cart caused one of the crates to fall out behind it. Renekton lifted it and began eating its contents like some sort of confection.
“I believe you have had your fair share of sun bathing for now, brother.”
“Don’t patronize me.” Still holding the crate, Renekton push open the gates with his other hand and walked inside. “Thanks to you, I have to expend my fury on this lifeless flesh.”
“Better that than staining our regal gate with blood. And besides, it’s best that you be calm for what’s to come. Our emperor has called for our presence.”
“I’ll be there,” Renekton sighed as he dejectedly threw the now empty crate against a pillar, shattering it to pieces. “Some one should clean that up.”
“Good to see you in high spirits, again.” Renekton grunted in reply as he made his way through the shining halls of the atrium and further back towards the throne room.
