Do items [help] bridge the gap in champion power level?

One of the things that was really cool in the old lore was that it seemed our champions were all (relatively) evenly matched.

With the new lore, that illusion is being stripped away pretty decisively. But I'm wondering if any of the lore junkies around here have considered the effect of items on your "power rankings?"

Maybe Garen couldn't handle Xerath normally, but what if he had the blade of legend, the Maw of Malmortius, to help him out? Maybe Swain could fight toe-to-toe with Aatrox if he was able to wield the Morellonomicon against him. And Zed wouldn't one-shot Gangplank if the former captain was wearing the "Dead Man's Plate," a revered magical armor whose true name was lost to history.

Personally, I would love to see some of these items creep into the lore, and it only makes sense that the "weaker" champions would be the ones with access to those items. Thoughts?

it wasnt so much the champs were equals as much as summoners were that much more powerful.

although i agree i really wish riot would beef up item lore. Id love to know more about botrk and his owner or the bloodthirster. Also with the retcon who is doran. Is he even still a character.

Well technically, any equipment that the champions wear, is an item, not an in-game item but an item regardlees.

Ezreal for example is just a dude wearring a really powerfull item. Garen wears an armor that is basically inmune to magic. Almost all the weapons and armors of the champions... are items Your clothes are items. World runes are items.

With the right tools anyone can defeat anyone... But the problem is... They have those tools? Can they use those tools?

I'd like to think so, my head canon in the old lore was that each of the finished items was an artifact in League's lore with some residual power from its owner. But it might be weird won how they actually use it like the ye olde conundrum of why someone with a gun or bow would buy giant ass swords

What about Runes?

the major problem with this is that items are always changing. it'd be added fluff that over complicates the process of reworking and updating characters. besides many of the items in game dont even make sense.

Problem is items don't have that much lore sadly. Or I just can't find it.
