Especially after Karthus' long lore has arrived...

Is he really evil? He legitamately believes taht what he is doing is right - hell, the argument can even be made that it is. I would take immortality, invulnerability, and freedom from mortality/pain if I could. Sure, he's a bit messed in the head, but he isn't really obsessed with DEATH as his quotes seems to reflect - more undeath.

Thoughts?

Is Karthus evil? Put simply, yes. Karthus is evil. When you strip away all the sophistry, all the big words, all the constructs, he's become a serial killer. He's killing people and enslaving their souls. Sure he thinks it's for their own good, but he doesn't think normally anymore. He's evil by most standards but good from his own alien point of view.

If a guy walks up to your house, says that death is the answer to all your problems, and gives you a pamphlet, you'd probably think he's a freak. If he walks up to your house, says that death is the answer to all your problems, and shoots you in the face, that's Karthus.

He is an enemy to the living, but to some he is a darn savior. Like remember the sailor that guided him to the shadow isles, he had a tremendous debt. lost his wife and had nothing to lose. Even if he returned to bilgewater its quite predictable he will live a damned life, possibly more damned than unlife.

The only part karthus is twisted is that he views life as a curse, not on the same coin with death, and does not accept that view. But aside from that he is a really kind man with pure intentions.

That doesn't mean he is not evil. Most "evil" people think what they are doing is right. They don't just wake up and roll out of bed and say hey I think I'll be evil today.

It is, as someone earlier said, a matter of perspective, and one that is often shaped by the victors.

It is difficult to tell how the shadow isles actually make the people submissive. Hecarim says that it is the role of the chain warden to enslave the spirits,so while karthus doesn't do it,someone else might do it in his place.

Also the black mist does seem to corrupt the peoples minds to different degrees(threshs lore mentions this),so it is questionable how good undeath is for different persons.

It's like a comic character in a super hero comic. Also on a side not, it's like pseudo Doctor Doom, because doom is doing good, even that God-celestial-creature-thing told him that all futures except the one Doom rules have a terrible fate

The thing with Karthus is that while yes he is fully aware of his actions and sees them as good and just. Because liberation from pain and suffering feels like a good thing at first he is the only one that actually can appreciate his state of being. As shown in his lore he kills people no matter if they want it or not. So unlike himself who embraced death and thus retained his identity. The same can probably not be applied to his victims.

As shown in the case of Hecarim and Kalista, When the victim is unwiling to embrace death their identity is erased and they simply become a tool to the Mist (and maybe Morde? I havent really worked that part out yet)

So Karthus does not really free anyone really, for that one living who willingly embraces death their are millions who resist and simply becomes slaves.

He is a zealot and a fanatic of his way, seeing as he forces other ppl to die and be reborn under the influence of the mist that deprives them of their will I consider him...
