I know I've said this a million times already...

...but, for the love of God Riot, please, Please, PLEASE, PLEASE be working on an MMO!

Irelia's update brought along with it an update to Ionia, and you honestly...

Cannot tell me...

That all of this...

Is not meant...

For something much larger than League.

Rivers of grass that flow with magic. Buildings not actually built, but actually grown. Giant turtles that can carry entire towns on their back!

######Ok, yes, I know that isn't an original idea, but COME ON!!!

Riot, this teasing.......this........torture.....can't go on for much longer.

You are building such a gorgeous and breathtaking world, and the only way we get to experience it is through a couple paintings!

With every update that comes around, the world of Runeterra is starting to rival that of Azeroth and Pandora. Don't know what I'm talking about when I say Pandora? I mean this Pandora:

Just.....please, Riot.....I beg of you! Don't keep us waiting much longer!

I'll be frank, I feel like League's world would work better as a small group of heroes doing hero stuff (co-op game for a decent sized party) rather than a MMO.

More D&D and less Warhammer.

The Boring Nerd4/3/2018, 1:51:48 AM11 votes

Not an MMO. It should be like Skyrim. Imagine that.

HonestJohnTheCon4/2/2018, 5:14:17 PM10 votes

C'mon, Riot, do it! The possibilities are literally endless.

Want to become a Noxian soldier and work your way up the ranks? Check. Want to hang out in Zaun and scrap together some gear? Check. Want to help solve a crime in Piltover? Kill a spirit in Ionia? Run a heist in Bilgewater? Check, check, and check.

...so many options.

I feel like they might hold out on this until the lore is complete, or if League starts losing popularity (for real, not this "league is dying cuz fortnite" B.S. right now). They probably know that League gets a lot of its appeal from its characters, and having another medium for those characters might screw up their player count on League.

Still, it's a nice thought.

It could be cool but it could end up becoming a huge resource pit for Riot that would eventually drag down League of Legends.

Jagex, the company who ran Runescape (the previous most popular online game), tried making several spin-offs (Mechscape/Stellar-Dawn) and large side-projects (Transformers game, Funorb Arcade, etc.) but they all failed in the end, and the resources that they pulled from their one successful product (Runescape) resulted in a drop in game quality. The side-projects used up some of their limited number of senior developers' time and efforts and also added new costs to the company. Jagex began to add pay-to-win features and lots of microtransactions (despite historically having a full-access by premium-subscription model), likely partially in order to fund their other projects. Their customer-relations became awful and players rapidly abandoned the game.

Your party, battle-weary from a raid commissioned by the leader of a Piltovan family, wonders the streets of the boarder markets with Zaun for cheaper supplies and some laughs. One of your party members thinks they see a white mohawk in the crowd "Dude no way they have Ekko down here! Let's find 'im, he has to be a quest giver or something!" Your party fans out among the streets of Zaun looking for the temporal delinquent in the hope of some great loot and bragging rites... but one by one, they seem to go silent. You yell into the comms for them to stop trolling, but then you remember that the only thing which temporarily blocks comms is death... MECHANICAL HOWLING "Well... Sh*t"

As I said countless times, Riot really needs to start making Lore focused games. Ether real-time strategy games, Role-playing games, or action games. Anything that could potentially expand the lore in a massive way. As it is right now, the MOBA that this lore is attached to through the champions that are placed in it in an all-star kind of way does not give too much space for the actual lore to expand, nor do these promotion stories update as frequently as they should for the lore to breath properly.

Irelia: you are here champion! good. the Void is coming we need to prepare. Champion: sure what do you need me to do? Irelia: bring me 10 herbs and fetch 15 stones. also kill 5 frogs. Champion : ... !

boring MMO fetch quests for the win \o/

i personally am not a fan of MMO's, but i would love an rpg or something of that nature

Elohaven4/2/2018, 7:47:48 PM3 votes

I disagree. Unfortunately, Riot being as small as it is, this doesn't seem practical with the focuses we want on LoL at the same time. Hopefully they get bigger and can make an RPG but a RPG would require a lack of resources to LoL which is a beast of a problem in itself.

Well Riot’s been working on a new game (games?) for a while now, and though we can’t say for sure whether it’ll be a MMORPG, the recent narrative and art content releases by the Worldbuilding team definitely seem geared for a large-scale, open world game; not to mention the Worldbuilding team themselves have gone out and stated that they don’t work on League proper, just Riot Games (which means this stuff probably can and will be used for other Riot IPs, hint hint).

There was also a small tidbit in one of the concept art images from Demacia’s /dev diary that reads “Demacian raptor knight class” — perhaps an idea for a player class in a MMORPG?

Problem is, the game design would become extremely complex.

They'd essentially have to create World of Runeterra or something which would simply copy the obvious competitor.

Not to mention that they haven't completed the retconning of the previous lore so there's also that.

Onotori4/3/2018, 5:57:45 AM2 votes

I'd rather Riot didn't make an MMO and add another F2P shitstain to the already abysmal MMO market. MMOs as a genre can't really take many more colossal failures before people start abandoning it altogether. : /

Hexs Fortune4/4/2018, 3:15:27 AM1 votes

I'd rather a single player or co-op RPG that can fully invest in story than an MMO that needs to do so many other things like raiding and battlegrounds and arenas

AFilthyCaitMain4/4/2018, 5:56:44 AM1 votes

I feel like it should be kinda like Warframe, where it COULD be considered an mmo, but you dont NEED to interact with other players, but theres benefits to it.

Hawthorn Tree4/5/2018, 7:12:55 AM1 votes

Or we can have a solo RPG, because I've had more than enough of other human beings just in the current League. It'd be nice to have a game where you can just go in on your own, pick a faction, and play out a story of conquest. Whether it's Wow or League, I'm always simultaneously under the pressure of not failing my comrades and the rage of being failed by those same people. Honestly, the best interactions are always with NPCs and NPCs alone.

Also, it'd be nice to not have our top-of-the-line gears be made obsolete with 0 compensation every few months.

Trias0004/2/2018, 7:15:21 PM1 votes

Yes! Explore a vast and beautiful world full of adventures with thousands of other players who hate you and wish you cancer! (read in a deep voice-over guy voice).

Papa Andrei4/2/2018, 7:59:04 PM1 votes

Honestly if they did this I would be interested in helping playtest an alpha. Though I would like a more rpg take on it, with alot less grinding.

Late For Tea4/2/2018, 8:16:35 PM1 votes

Yea, I'd love to play as those demon yeti monkeys from the first image!

Hextech OwI4/2/2018, 9:15:47 PM1 votes

I'd be pretty happy if the "s" in Riot Games was usefull.

Xilixer4/3/2018, 1:41:39 AM1 votes

the only way i see this happening is if Riot grows their numbers to the point to where they can have a seperate team focus on this. otherwise they would be pulling people from working on league and that's an awful idea.

GG Thanks For LP4/3/2018, 1:55:51 AM1 votes

Id rather have an mmorpg.

Athenes Lulu4/3/2018, 2:30:47 AM1 votes

Honestly, that kind of environment would take years to make. Imagine putting some kind of story or even direction of gameplay into that...

I know it's cool and I'd love to play it, but realistically, it would have to take years unless Riot has been completely hiding something for years.

YiffMeImAFurry4/3/2018, 3:10:16 PM1 votes

I would play this. Lemme have a whole skill tree of wind techniques so I can at either like Riven or Yasuo. Its explored so little in game right now...but a whole skill tree... drool

Risen294/3/2018, 3:46:45 PM1 votes

I was blown away by the artwork when I saw it. Amazing work. Love the style.

I thought to myself, do they make artwork of this quality just for their internal visioning, or just to release for the players to view online? It really feels like work of this quality should get more exposure in game or something.

It really makes you want to visit that world.

xelaker4/3/2018, 4:05:14 PM1 votes

mmo games tend to fizzle out fast, why waste resources when their moba is doing just fine?

Hyquiem4/4/2018, 3:05:22 AM1 votes

League PvE I quit.
