Shen's Update and why I don't like it

Shen's update was something I was fairly excited for even though I haven't played him much. My brother has played loads of Shen and from what I've heard Shen is a health building tank that even when you are top lane you still almost play like a support because of your ult.

I personally am not a fan of his model changes(Other than Blood Moon, that's just creepy.) It doesn't feel like Shen. First of all I've noticed that when Shen autos he uses only one of his weapons and it is a two-hander, Why? It just looks really goofy having that other sword just chilling on his back. I understand they are doing the whole Ki blade thing, but I always thought that his dual swords that he was pretty iconic. Ninjas are supposed to be fast and agile, but now he just swings a big bulky two-hander around. He doesn't have his satisfying double blade strike either. I adore Shen's splash art but I noticed his new model doesn't really look too much like him. Compare his new model with his splash especially the face area. The mask and eyes are entirely different.

They tried to make his passive and Q more interactive but they just made his Q an auto-attack damage and attack speed steroid. His passive is just a shield you will ignore and is just a bonus for when you use spells. In the end you will still do the same combo of taunt into Q then autos and maybe W if you have the excess energy for it. Whats wrong with a character being mechanically simple yet fun? Having this new max health damage feels like it might make him a bit too strong.

I don't know maybe I am just picky but his whole rework feels gimmicky. The pet blade, the max health damage, and the little AOE protection bubble. I apologize for spelling and grammar errors and if this is in the wrong place(Haven't posted much).

EDIT: I realize this should have been in gameplay but I originally wrote this to complain about his two-hand sword.

Way to early to say anything yet, but I have some kit issues.

The first is that he lost his sustain, though that may be a healthy change. His shield is up more often (in combat) so maybe that is making up for that.

The thing that bothers me is this spirit blade. I like the idea, but I don't really understand yet how the blade moves around, comes out, where it decides to go, etc. Its important because his Q pulls the blade to him, and the W affects in what zone the dodge is effective. Once this gets explained, I'll be much happier.

Overall though I think this rework is a good idea; currently shen is a pretty stale toplaner with a lot of hidden power (his Q healing as well as Q harass is very annoying and difficult to deal with). However, he also has some big negatives such as the inability to use all his abilities in an extended fight. This rework looks like it will help that a lot.

But again, its really early to say anything for sure.

I'm quite sure the bulky two hander is for Q.

I'm fairly certain Shen will have to build Bruiser-ish now that he doesn't have a way of ranged harrass. Maybe replace the Frozen Mallet or one of the armor items with a Frozen Heart and you'd be gucci.
