Regarding the Mount Targon event and Aurelion Sol.

A little while ago, I was thinking about Aurelion Sol and the fact that he was the next champion. That got me thinking about how it would be strange that they have an Ionia champ right after this whole Mount Targon Lore event. This is about when my stupidity turned off. You see where I'm going? Aurelion SOL, as in, the sun and the Solari. So now I ask, what do you all think? Aurelion Sol could very well be the avatar of the Solari or something (Sorry, my Mount Targon lore isn't up to par.) The more I dwell on it, the more I feel this is the direction Riot wanted to take, but I'm sure there are thousands of ideas I couldn't possibly fathom, so please, share!

Honestly. I have heard a bunch of people saying Aurelion Sol will be an Ionian champion.

But. I was thinking about this whole Targon thing (Stemming from reading the new lores in pbe news sites) and I legit just randomly clicked on Riot's own page on the updated law. And it hit me.

The moment you on their page for the Targon update, it obviously shows the three Targon champ's icons and clicking each one leads to their new lore blablabla. However next to the three champion icons are two empty ones that do nothing. Riot is literally waggling two empty lore spots in their lore update page DAYS after they talk about Aurelion.

Not only that, the icons themselves are (if you care to look around in the source code) all coded and named with each champion's name. Obviously. But the empty icons are named "Champion-placeholder.jpg"

As if they're just there as 'placeholders' till we get some crazy update in a couple weeks/months and the Taron update becomes totally relevant.

Think it like the shivering isles being redone just after Kallista's release (before?) Or Illaoi release after the whole Bilgewater events.

I might sound a little crazy and grasping at straws here, but Riot has found a way recently in slowly slowly introducing new events and champions in the most crazy ways. Check it out anyway!

EDIT: Also people have been saying Aurelion roughly translates from latin I think? Like Golden Sun or something. Latin > Targon being kind of greek-esc Olympus inspired deal.

Yup,most think that Aurelion sol will be a targonian champ. There is also the fact that the Taric rework is likely to come after the next champion and poppys joke hints at taric being connected to Targon,so it is likely that the 2 empty slots will be filled by aurelion and taric respectively.

Though they said that aurelion will be released in the first half of this year, not that he is the next champion, but so there is no guarantee that he'll be the next champ(though I think it is likely)

No one said they were going to be ionian. All we know is that Sol will be a dragon champion to be released in the first half of the year. I'm assuming that since 2 spots are still open on the mount targon event, Sol will be there. I don't understand how you thought they would for sure be ionian. I'm glad you realized that it won't be.

They never said he would be next exactly

It was never said that Aurelion Sol is to be the next champion.

As you follow the lore updates, each region is getting a champion who doesn't quite fit, someone who's just there to cause trouble for the sake of having stories to tell. Xerath, Mordekaiser, Illaoi, Jhin. In Targon, that champion would have been Diana except now if Leona and Diana meet up they'll end up being BFFs really fast, and Pantheon's lore suggests there's trouble brewing.

Since Taric is really likely to be one of the two missing champions, that'd leave the other to be the troublemaker, and I really don't think that it'd be the one dragon champion. Could be, but i highly doubt it.
