Kayn's ultimate

When was released, I figured his ultimate was some kind of shadow magic like his Shadow Step, but after playing him I'm wondering if it's actually part of Rhaast's Darkin power to infest someone like he's infested Kayn's left arm (before transformation). In Darkin form, Rhaast says "I can't wait to infest them!" as one of his movement voice lines.
