Thoughts on Latest Skins + Upcoming
As of late, I've been deciding on whether or not to start back up my Candidates series (and for those who don't know that, it's just where I throw a skin topic out there and you list champs who could fit in it), but haven't really thought of a good topic to start back up on that I haven't done before.
So, I decided to try another smaller series to start up that I can relatively keep up to date with. And that is just me sharing my thoughts on recently teased skins or skins that are shoved to live and then opening it up to community discussion (I'm very original).
Let's just start:
#Odyssey
The series that's been out for a while now and you can technically play with the skins for free in this limited time event. I've talked about this before but now after a while is passed I feel like I should do a recover. Jinx I still feel like has been getting a bit too much attention recently, with her getting quite a few emotes and now 2 skins in the span of 9 months, but arguments of her making the new series work I will not deny. It really wouldn't be the same if she wasn't in this.
Yasuo, whatever I guess, Malphite I guess has a cool neat skin now, though I still feel like he needs a rework very soon, Ziggs is meh, and Sona's skin I feel is nice (but a bit confusing with Karma in some ways).
Now Kayn, though, I'm almost split. On the one hand, it's nice that he got a legendary. Both forms are really beautiful (though Rhaast will still always be the best), and the banter between the two is something I now wish would happen more even after you transform. On the other, it almost feels too early to give him his legendary. I've always had the notion that a champ more or less needs to be out for some time before they get a super tier skin, and yeah I know that not a rule, but it's always felt that way to me. People have made the argument that "oh he technically is 3 skins" and I mean I can see where you're coming from, but I imagine designing a skin for Kayn shouldn't immediately be super tier every time. All I really think needs to happen is figure out his neutral state and then his forms. Hell, his forms for the most part always need to have a similar appearance, from Rhaast with his horns to SA Kayn with his long-ass hair. After that it's just working with particles since his animations and skeletons will be copied over. But I think I've bantered long enough on this.
Overall, I think the series is solid and I'm just going to leave it at that.
#Teasers
The recent dragon teaser that people are probably aware of by now hits at the long awaited Heimerdinger skin that Riot mentioned a while back. I, for one, cannot be happier for a few reasons:
- Heim is finally getting a new skin
- I love dragons
- It's more than likely Dragon Trainer Heim that was posted a while back
Only question is if this will also be a Legendary skin? If so, then that's a lot of high tier skins for Riot to push out in a short amount of time.
Also, if Heim is coming, there may be some other Dragon related skins as well. With some news of Kled's skin coming out soon, it's not out of the question if he could show up in this. He fits the theme pretty well. Not sure about anyone else I can think of at the moment.
Continuing on, we had a small teaser for Janna for some Harrowing/Halloween skins (as it's that time that we near it once again), and then what was presumed a similar skin for Kai'Sa (which I'll get to). Janna, for the most part, I hate as a champ on multiple levels. Playing as her, against her, her looks, the feel of her character, I just don't like. But I will admit that this is a pretty nice skin. Kind of sad that it wasn't a darker theme for her like banshee or some concepts I've seen floating around but this one's pretty nice. Have to wait and see if we have more for this year.
Now onto Kai'Sa and the now teased Akali, Ahri (again, ugh) & Evelynn. As first impressions for this series/set... I have no interest. I don't listen to KPOP, which this is clearly trying to show, I haven't really listened to it and overall I just don't want to. On top of that, didn't Ahri already get a skin related to this? And for that matter, WHY IS SHE GETTING ANOTHER SKIN THIS YEAR (I'm being sarcastic, I know the deal: popular, iconic, sells well, porn, etc. I GOT IT)?
With everyone else though, I'm just disappointed. Kai'Sa doesn't look that cool and have no idea how her helmet will work, Akali just looks...whatever, and Evelynn might be the best out of them, but remembering what I said, that's not a whole lot. I will say though that I'm not too riled up that she's getting another skin this year, as she doesn't really have that many, but if this is suppose to be her higher tier skin from 975 and below, I'm going to be disappointed.
