About the Shadow Isles Denizens
Thesh mentions that they are gods. How can this be when their lives are miserable and they cant eat, go anywhere other than where the mist is etc.? Their lives seem crappy to me.

They're dead, so they can't have crappy lives if they don't have lives.
Because Thresh personally is having a pretty great time being undead. And he doesn't really mind that other people aren't. Thresh got a major power boost from "dude guarding a magic basement," he's ludicrously hard to permanently kill, and going by his color story he can use the Mist to fast travel.
Sure, a bunch of spirits who aren't Thresh are suffering, but he's probably not going to strongly object to that.
Because Thresh enjoys being undead. He has become quite powerful, is almost impossible to kill(and even if he dies, he can appearantly respawn on the shadow isles) and he can now torture people much more effectively than before.
For him being undead is far more exciting than being alive.
We need to remember that Thresh's mental stability is questionable. Thresh has spent an unknown amount of time under the influence of dark magic (to the point where there has been a definite effect on his mental state), and undeath has arguably made him an extremely powerful being (as per his color story and Lucian's, Thresh can leave the Isles without a Harrowing). When I read that line, I read it as the ramblings of a man on a power trip, possibly enjoying the suffering he's enduring, and definitely enjoying the suffering of those around him. Thresh says the spirits of the Isles are gods, but Ledros' response makes it pretty clear he's a minority in that case. Thresh is just kinda not all there, I don't doubt that a combination of the dark magic in his vault and the Black Mist have stripped away his mental stability and has at least partially severed his connection to reality and to take away either influence would probably be something akin to a massive crash.
TL;DR is Thresh is probably not all that sane and shouldn't be taken as gospel on the state of the Isles' denizens.
