Riot Pls, Honest Thoughts on Classic Udyr Model / Anims
What are you thinking about doing with this guy? Or have you not thought about it at all?
There's the questions. If you're not interested in salty rants, that's all you need to see. Opinion time;
Sadly it seems to me - and a few others have brought it up in the past - Udyr is just going to sit under his Ultimate skin which isn't so much "Epic Alternate Udyr" as it is "What Classic Should Be in 2016". It will make money and with all the ridiculous other amounts of shit Riot needs to update, Riot is probably happy to just let Spirit Guard be the 'real' Udyr skin and leave his shitty default model and anims as an excuse to buy it.
Udyr at least needs some touching up, at least modern animations, but I fear this will never happen. THe updated splash was a slap in the face, because it makes Udyr look so great. I see some potential there for a Classic VU. Bring out the 'wild-man' in Classic, with Spirit Guard being the meditated super saiyan final form. Instead I never play Classic because it's 5+ year old art assets and feels too uncanny to me now against the backdrop of a modern League. At least Definitely Not Udyr is good, only because it's supposed to be silly so it meshes well with how uncanny his animations are.
But fuck it... there is no end in sight. Even Warwick gets to be in the 'ice box'
Fuck Spirit Guard. And while we're at it; Fuck Pulsefire Ezreal. It's literally a 1350 skin or 1800 at the most by today's standards. Look at Dragon Trainer Tristana. Sure it has the early form of the 'evolution' gimmick, but in all other aspects it's terribly out-dated.
It seems like Ultimate skins have just been Riot cramming as much content into a skin as they can, with their current tech level. League really needs a solidified identity and polished style before any more of these skins should be considered. DJ Sona is good, but will it be good in a few more years? God knows Riot won't drop the price regardless...
