Pyke's resurrection

After a little research, I think that I found out what did revive, or rather let Pyke outlive him being eaten alive by a jaullfish. Tl:Dr version: He was revived by the Frozen watchers/ghosts of The Iceborn.

Really long version: As we know, The Frozen Watchers are actually from the void, and are the first ones from the void to reach and reside in Frejlord. These masters of the void actually made servents called The Iceborn, humans that were given Immortality, supernatural strength and magic. Sounds familiar? It should. After the fight between Avarosa and her fellow Iceborn against them, the Watchers were defeated, at the cost of of many Iceborns also dying in the fight. Before their fall, the Watchers ordered the Iceborn to take over and build them shrines and fortresses, such as the one in the Howling Abyss, to make the Watchers an empire-which led me to theorize something even better: what is the "Swimming City"? WHAT I THINK: 1)The swiming city that Pyke keeps mentioning is an actual place, although I'm not sure if it's one of the structures/ the burial site that the Iceborn made and just melted and drifted off the Frejlord, or if it's a breaching point from the void that spat out different relics from other places, so it looks like a city. 2) About the actual ressurrection- Pyke could be a descended of the Iceborn, as he was revealed by Riot as a half Frejlord, and they revived him- Their ghosts are the blue lights that surronded him while he was in the Jaull's mouth, awakened by his despair and/or him being dragged to the place they laid slumbering. And yes, there are Iceborn ghosts, like the shopkeeper in the Howling Abyss. If the swimming city is indeed a breaching point from the void, it could be that one of the watchers sensed him and made him into a new servent, a new kind of Iceborn, though I like the first option better.

The watchers' wish was to take over the world, making a large empire, and they used the Iceborn to do so. It could be that the Iceborn took over Pyke's mind and are making him belive that everyone is guilty and killing them, so that they can take over when they and the watchers get revived themselves, basically culling the herd for the final fight. I based this theory on the fact that Pyke was proven half Frejlord and from several lines that he says: "We are old blood."- refers to him being a part of the Iceborn. "Used to call 'em monsters, but they changed my mind."- probably his thoughts about the Watchers or the Iceborn "The war's brewing, I chose my side."- the war in Frejlord. "There's no sunken cities, just the swimming one."- maybe refers to the void taking over cities? and again, the swimming city as an actual place. "The surface won't be the top much longer."- the eventual breach and war of the void "Madness lurks below." "Deep-folk have a way with persuasion."- refers to the ghosts. "My mind ain't all my own these days."- the Iceborn taking over his mind. "I seen what lurks below, lots of eyes..."- the eyes of the ghosts/ Void monsters "I am not the only one who wants revenge on everyone."- The Watchers and Iceborn revenge "Bottom of the sea's the top of another world." - the swimming city as a breaching point of the void "My new bosses don't care about gold."- They care about taking over the world And of course his interaction with Ashe: "Hah, warmother means captain."- he could know that from his father... or the ghosts telling him. And if you think it can't be The Iceborn giving him powers because their powers are, well ice, think again. Lissandra, as an Iceborn, can know her surrondings by sensing the difference in the tempature of the ice, meaning also water. It would also explain why his eyes turned blue- he's becoming an Iceborn, though only partly.

I'm not 100% sure whether or not the Frozen Watchers could be Voidborn - for one, the frozen aesthetic (cool blues) doesn't exactly match the Void (dark, medium purples and violets), and on top of that, the Void - as far as anyone knows, is disinterested in ruling the world. It seeks to consume.

Kaisa: "The void is not so much a place - it is a power, reaching out to consume all life."

Granted, we do get some hints that there may be some form of higher entity in the Void, from Aurelion Sol's color story, Twin Dawns.

From the epicenter of the corruption, I feel a will… hungry and indomitable, and far from the typical mindlessness I’m accustomed to from these Voidborn aberrations....

...Few beings could fathom its complexities, let alone possess the sheer magnitude of power needed to rend the fabric of existence. In my heart, I know a wound so exquisite could never be orchestrated by scuttling creatures. No. There must be more behind this intrusion. I shudder at the thought of what kind of entity is capable of inducing such a volatile rift...

But, even that entity is described as "hungry", lending to the notion that the Void does not care to rule, just to devour.

Beyond that, though, there's a lot of conflicting information about the Swimming City and Pyke's new allegiance. There are some hints that it may be some sort of underwater civilisation, and there are hints that it may just be supernatural sea-beasts.

These few quotes point towards at least some knowledge about Pyke's current allies, namely that they're seemingly the very sea-monsters that Pyke used to hunt - with the possibility of there being an actual people that he works for.

But, what I find interesting, is that Pyke's friends in the Swimming City were presaged by Swain.

Swain: "They fight the mist above the seas, never looking beneath."

Between that and Pyke's quote;

"The war's brewing. I chose my side."

I can't help but feel that there's some unspoken new faction planning something in the ocean depths. And, I don't think it could be the Frozen Watchers, either, because they can't exactly rule the world when there's no lesser beings to lord over. They seem more like the "beguile and subjugate" type than the "murder everything" type.

As an aside, there are a few quotes that I find somewhat peculiar.

"Your sermons damned me, Illaoi."

Could Pyke's initial want for revenge have been enough of a motivator to keep him alive - or, at the worst, become an unliving specter? Or, judging by another quote...

"Went too deep. Part of me's still down there...Swimming..."

Could he be being tested by the unknown beasts that he works for? He's clearly still of his own mind for the most part, but he's missing something, which he remarks is still down in the depths.

It wouldn't make sense for Nagakabouros to take a monster slayer and turn him into a deluded, mass-murdering revenant. Especially when he mentions that he isn't the only one who wants revenge on everybody.

Speaking of avatars of vengeance...

"You betrayed me Kalista."

That quote feels...Odd. Kalista betraying him would mean that he would have already committed to a pact on her Black Spear, meaning his soul would belong to her. And, more than that, Pyke himself is enacting his retribution, rather than entrusting the grisly ends of his betrayers to the Spear of Vengeance.

There is a lot of conflicting info regarding Pyke's current situation - he could be a divine angel of wrath, a tormented spectre wreaking havoc on Bilgewater, a lost soul pledged to Kalista, or a half-dead husk driven to the ends of some unknowable underwater faction.

I think it’s a big stretch to tie any of this to the Frozen Watchers. This Swimming City, I imagine, is quite independent of other threats we’ve heard of.

As for Kalista, I think he may have tried to offer himself to her, but she rejected him - perhaps due to his own corrupted state, she would not be able to absorb his soul. Or perhaps his desire for revenge was spread amongst too many people who were innocent of any betrayal.

when was Pyke's linage confirmed?
