Am I the only one who's a little dissappointed that Riot just changed Evelynn into a demon?

The whole part of Eve's lore was that no one knew what she was. She wasn't...possibly human. Nor was she a vampire or anything. No one knew what she was and that was her charm. She was unknown. Just an expensive assassin that lurked in the shadows for her next prey while having fun at it.

By flat out saying, "Oh she's a demon now." kinda spoils a lot of the mystery behind her character. I liked that the whole idea of using the word 'demon' was more of a symbolism to their character, Tahm being called demon didn't exactly mean he was one, but it was just something that could be called of him. "Call me King. Call me demon. Water forgets the names of the drowned."

By flat out turning her into one kinda just... I don't know. Rubs me the wrong way personally. I liked the ambiguity of her existence and her race.

I could probably be the only one that feels like this. So if I am, sorry. :P

if no one knows who she is how can she be fleshed out to be a unique character? if she's fleshed out with a story and an origin how can she be mysterious and not have a description?

gurl this aint BK. (jk. lol.)

for real though think about it.

I would argue the question now is, "what is a demon?" And I haven't seen someone get even 50% correct yet. (And yes that means there is a specific set of rules and worldbuilding around these things)

Tahm was not mystery for mystery's sake-- he hints at the larger truths for runeterra.

The whole "no one knows what she is and you as the reader will never get to know" is kind of a lazy way of writing a characters story in my opinion.

I personally feel like it's a bit better than saying, "yeah, no one knows what she is, don't expect answers." But hey, you're entitled to your own view on things. That's what makes things interesting.

Disappointed? A little bit, yes. The thing I always liked about Eve was that she was something close to human, but clearly not. We had little information on who she was or why she did what she did, but the human elements gave her an edge. Her relationship with TF (for example) was something I found fascinating, because Eve's motive for it was a little unclear. Did she get with TF specifically to make him fall for her and dump him later, as she implied in the journal (it'd certainly be something this Eve would do, assuming she didn't flay him alive)? Was it solely a casual thing that she broke off when TF got too attached? Or perhaps she broke it off the moment she felt HERSELF getting attached?

Yeah that last one isn't very likely, but the fact that it COULD have been the case was something i loved about her old lore. She clearly had a supernatural reason to cause pain and suffering, but she also had a human side that could potentially have emotions of its own that contradicted those. That's not to say that we had a symbiote/Spiderman situation here; Eve definitely revelled in her power. But even evil people have friends, lovers, favorite jokes, pets, etc etc. Her color story in Zaun (that's now non-canon) showed that while she had no problem showing respect to nobles, she'd cut your throat if you dared think yourself her better. It showed that she had a personal distaste for the Gray Lady, and took pride in her own accomplishments. She was a person.

The newer demon stuff... well, to be fair, we haven't actually gotten our hands on it yet, but given that she's now a full-blown demon and judging on her voice lines... yeah. She seems flatter as a character.

That's not to say I hate this new version, I'm just gonna miss the old.

Imo it's better than a mystery that'd we'd never get an answer to.

yeah your about the only one.. you can see her more as a succubus ... which is what i kinda get the feel they originally wanted for eve

Tesla Effect9/30/2017, 12:46:19 PM1 votes

Not sure what you were lead to believe, but she was always a character with a succubus thematic.

Not at all. It's not like WoW where demons are relatively common and people know what they are. Besides, Eve, there's only Tahm Kench that's also a demon (And supposedly Nocturne and Shaco, rumor is). It still leaves a lot of mystery because we don't know what a demon is in the context of the League universe.

I liked the ambiguity as well actually, so I understand how you feel. That said, lets be honest, she was of ambiguous origin because Riot didn't care about the lore back then the way they do now.

As fun as having a mystery around whether she is even human or not is, i'll take concrete lore and character over it happily.

The real question is how many people in the game know what she is? Maybe one?

Wînter Fox9/27/2017, 5:17:35 AM1 votes

I disagree simply because we call something a demon or a monster when we don't know what it is. Demon is very easily a placeholder for something "inexplicably inhuman and exceptionally evil" which describes Evelynn very, very well.
