Why are all the new splashes so dark?

Seriously just image search the word "splash update" and you'll see what I mean. I can barely recognize anything in the splashes that aren't in full size.

I'm not sure if it's because Riot spent too much money on making cinematic and stuff so they couldn't afford a decent monitor, or it's just that someone in the art team recently discovered this amazing spotlight technique and went " holy shit this looks awesome let's use it on everything".

Yes, high contrast of colour gives a greater impact but you don't have to make everything look spooky.
