Musings of Ez, Kayle and Morg 's futures.

I'm writing this out in hopes that it'll reach the writing teams for these champions before things become solidified.

Throughout my brief period of playing League (about a year) I've become familiar with League's meme culture suggesting that Ezreal and Taric are gay. Now up until this point the only notable gay champion are the two humans that make up Varus. Besides that the only other romance we have in League is Xayah and Rakan. All of the other potential love interests are referenced in-game and thus aren't necessarily cannon, especially with them only being nods like, "Hey, you're cute." and thus they never evolve into anything. That isn't to say that they can't but it's more realistic for them to not be since the chances of a champion interacting with the other champion is probably uncommon given the distances in Runeterra. It's more of them simply acknowledging that they can love and if they did meet this is who they'd have an interest in like how skins are acknowledging what a champ in an alternate universe would be like. Why I'm explaining all this I don't know. But what I am trying to get at is that after having the pleasure of watching the Pax West "Stories Beyond Summoner's Rift" panel I began to think more about what the future of Ezreal might be like and just other champions in general. What I mean is, while sexuality doesn't have to be something definitive to a character it'd certainly spruce them up more and add more diversity both in story-telling and just champions to relate to. Botlane seems to be the place for romances given the three champions I stated before and then the shipping of Ezreal with champs like Lux (who some may argue is or isn't a Support) and Ezreal. And then of course you have Zoe who's the exception to this rule unless you count Garen and Katarina (which I'm not familiar with I just know that some people ship them). But even Zoe was played as a Support and still is on the occasion but that's besides the point. Ultimately though it makes sense for this lane to be the lane for relationships. As it is you're always with someone and you both need to rely on eachother to live. So it seems fitting to explore more of this, of course not so much to the point where it's overdone but I feel like nods every now and then would be quite nice and could open up more possibilities in the future. (Oh right, and Lucian is another ADC who's backstory is founded upon losing his wife to Thresh.)

I digress yet again though, what I'm getting at is. Ezreal is one of my favorite ADCs (in regards of design) and up until this point I've been reluctant to play him because while his design sells his voice is uncomforting among other things. So I was really excited to hear that he's getting an update. But with this update I'd like to see more added to him. I know that one of the narrators doesn't like making Champions romantically interested in each other (outside of skin-lore) and Xayah and Rakan (which is obviously their theme). And I can agree to that, it creates restriction and may not make sense when there's more world-building. Plus it may take away from the character by having them romantically involved with another. But nods in-game seem perfectly fine since those don't have to be cannon. However, like I've been building up to, with Ezreal I'd like to see other sides of Ezreal that we haven't seen; I'd like to see him as a bisexual man. Someone who provides more diversity to the game. Being bisexual wouldn't take away from him, it'd only add more. It'd keep the heterosexual thing he has going with Lux without denouncing the idea that he could also be gay or even romantically in love with Taric (if that's the sort of thing that you support...). It'd also sell him even more to me as someone who's bisexual. And like I said, in the end it doesn't take away from him or define him it'd only add more to him. Plus, I think it'd work as a nice analogy of sorts with him being an Explorer. He's still young, he could be figuring things out; exploring who he is. Maybe there could be a story that nods about how he once traveled to a far away place and he capitalized on his looks to further his research. Or maybe he falls in love too easily being so open to many love interests and having explored many places he's met a lot more of people than most others have had and it's a personal struggle for him. And I mean, all that it's really require is a few lines of dialogue and just a few nods here and there in his story. Nothing big, nothing defining because then that's just forcing it and that's not what I want; just something subtle like how it's been handled with the other characters in their stories and in game he could just be suggestive towards other champions both male and female (and not just Lux).

In the end though I doubt this will be noticed or considered but at least I got to muse and all I can do now is hope. The only other thing I had to say was about the Kayle and Morgana rework. This one is much more brief because as they are now I don't know what to think of them which is why I'm so excited for their rework. However, I've heard rumors that they might be demoted to Targonians instead of remaining Angels from some distant world. Although Targon is technically another world it's not a world I want to see associated with them. After the Darkin update I was a little distasteful to how League's universe was kind of shrinking. What originally had potential to explore other existing races on other worlds became nothing more than fallen Ascended warriors. It just felt kind of lackluster compared to what could've been something epic. I know that there's still possibilities of exploring other worlds but I had hoped to at least start off with what we already had. But I can also see why shrinking the universe is important. Runeterra as it is already requires so much attention and there may be more to it. So focusing and building other worlds too might be difficult. Still though, all I can ask is that Kayle and Morgana remain alien to Runeterra. I at least want a third alien world present in the universe.

Anyways, these are my musings. Thanks for reading them and if the Ezreal portion does get to Riot I'd be very happy.

Edit: One other thing. I hope that reworked Morgana gets rid of her scoliosis problem unless it becomes cannon that she has some type of disease in which case I'd appreciate that because again, diversity. And diversity doesn't just mean, let's acknowledge a specific trait but rather, let's make more things for people to relate to.

On a gameplay note. Even though Morg came first, Lux and her feel similar except while Lux deals burst Morg. deals sustained. For instance, the placement of their abilities and the radius of their abilities are almost the same. I'd like to see more diversity in Morg's kit. Being angelic I feel like she's too divine (even if having fallen) to be normal and to follow normal trends. Like current Kayle I think it'd be great to see her fall in the Special class too; I'd like to see her with a kit that's completely different and abstract. Morg as she is though is reasonably solid though. Common complaints though is the duration of the root, that her E might ks. But yeah. Really I just want to see her get a better ult. It feels weird throwing someone like her into the middle of a fight to get an ult off that might not always be rewarding. It fits her theme but it's also not very flashy and I feel like it'd be nice to have her get a more powerful, flashy/fancy, modern ult.

tl;dr: make Ezreal bi, keep Kayle/Morgana aliens.

I doubt either is gonna happen but Ez needs a remark toward Taric.

I would only like to see them say Ez is bi if it's actually relevant. Otherwise it's kind of just like "hey guys, Ez is bi, quota filled". From his previous lore, it looks more like he's just an explorer looking for his family. I would much rather see this expanded upon than any kind of sexuality or relationship in his bio, considering how little room there is. If they fit it in organically I won't complain, but it isn't something that needs to be prominent IMO.

As to Kayle and Morganna, I personally dislike having more alien races. I vastly prefer if a character's backstory originates in a place that is already developed. If you have to introduce a whole new race, culture and setting, there's no way it is going to paint a clear image in my head as opposed to somewhere already established. It just seems unecessary if they're gonna end up looking human anyway. At least with the Darkin they had a different colour scheme and bone structure, Kayle and Morganna are just humans with wings.

Being bisexual myself, I'm all for more non-Dragon Age 2 style representation. If you aren't familiar with that game, they decided to just throw up their hands and say 'fuck it, everybody is bi' which always felt really pandering and half-assed to me.
