My Feedback on Every Major VGU

Aatrox: I think they did a good job with story an visuals but IMO his kit is his weak point and I think it should be redone. It just hardly resembles his old kit at all and it just feels like it's not Aatrox anymore. The passive is a unique effect but it's kinda boring in execution. His Q is his main move and everything else he has just seems to support it. I like the W though. His E just feels very unoriginal and like it was only thought of in tandem with his Q and his ultimate just feels meh. Balance wise he seems to be kinda a nightmare, and I think overall they should take another stab at his kit. Overall Grade: B -

Akali: I think her story is fine and her passive is really interesting and unique. Her kit is pretty fun to play and it works well so good job Riot. Visually the only thing that really irks me is her hair. It's a sideways Mohawk and IMO it's not appealing. Balance-wise she seems to be kinda oppressive right now and her shroud is very frustrating to deal with. I think if they increased the amount of time it took to go back into stealth after leaving it and if they changed her hair then I wouldn't really have a problem with this rework. Overall Grade: B +

Evelynn: My favourite thing about this rework is her character. I think they absolutely hit the nail on the head when it came to making new Evelynn who she is. Visually I have some gripes. I think that in some of her skins including her base her Lashers are just too big and it looks unappealing. The shadow clothing idea was interesting and I liked the sound of it but in execution it just kinda looks like black glitter glue smeared across her body randomly in her splash and just different coloured skin in game. I think they could have done it better. In some of her concept art I think she looked better and I wish they had gone with that instead of her current model. When it comes to her gameplay, I still like her and she's very fun and although I think some of her abilities like her Q and E just feel wierdly designed (the lasher and mark aspect of her Q IMO removes its previous simplicity and her E kinda feels the same way) but I still enjoy how it all works together. Balance wise I don't think she's the worst offender. Overall Grade: B+

Fiora I'm not a Fiora main, but I really liked her rework. Visually it was alright and they didn't really change too much about who she was and her kit I think is pretty neat. I love her passive and ult and I think it was a very neat idea. When it comes to her balance I definitely think she just does way too much true damage and honestly think that the AD scaling on it should be nerfed in favor of base damage but with the scaling on the ult remaining. Overall Grade: A-

Galio Not as much of a fan of this rework. He looks alright and his lore is fine but the most interesting part of his kit to me is his ult and everything else, although fun to use IMO, isn't too interesting. I wish they had kept more of old Galio. He&'so historically been problematic for the balance team and I don't really think anyone enjoys fighting him. I think they should do another pass at him at some point. Overall Grade: C+

Gangplank I think they progressed his story and visuals well with this rework and made his kit a little more flavourful and unique without removing what made GP GP. That being said, I think he's horrendously overloaded and oppressive for a lot of top laners. Overall Grade: A-

Irelia I love her story. I think they did a good job expanding and improving on what was already there. Visually I think she's a work of art and her character model and floating swords that flow like water are stunning. I really like what they did with her gameplay. The shield crushing aspect of her passive is unique and they kept her Q which was important. Her W and E I think are good abilities as well and her ultimate is so cool and flavourful. She's also really fun to play, but I think she can feel kinda unfun to play against which is her only downside and takes away from an otherwise perfect grade. Overall Grade: A

Nunu: In every way imaginable I think newnu is a strict improvement on old Nunu. He and Willump look fantastic IMO and their story is compelling and cute. Gameplay-wise they kept the main aspects of old Nunu while adding two new interesting and fun abilities. I've played newnu and I absolutely love everything about him. He's definitely a strong pick now, but I think that he won't be oppressive, especially when people learn to how dodge his W. Overall Grade: A+

Poppy: Another champion I think they did a spectacular job with. She still has the soul of old Poppy while being visually regal, cute, and heroic. Her story is simple but charming as is her character and I love it. Her kit is fun to me and I think her passive is great fun and her W and ult give her an interesting and unique place in a team. They even kept aspects of old Poppy and overall, it does still feel like you're playing her, just an improved version. I feel like she's a bit on the strong side ATM but with the right numbers I don't think she's broken. Overall Grade: A+

Ryze: I'm going to talk about the most recent Ryze rework. He's still the old grumpy impatient archemage that people know and love, but now his visuals and story are updated and give him a presence in game and in the world of Runeterra. His kit is complex and intricate and that and his ultimate are what make him special. I'm not actually sure how he fares when it comes to balance, but I don't think it's that good. I've seen him do some pretty stupid stuff which would make me think he's op but at the same time he often struggles which I think is a sign that they might not have perfected him just yet. Overall Grade: A

Shen: I don't have as much of an opinion on Shen. I didn't really like him before his rework and I don't know if I really like him much more now, but I definitely like him more at least. I've never really read his story so I can't comment on that. Visually they modernized him in an elegant way. His kit is interesting and his W and ultimate are unique and I think it's a solid kit if only kinda hard to pull off. They kept his e and his r so he's still Shen. Balance wise I don't think he's much of a problem. I think it was a good VGU, I just don't have much interest in him. Overall Grade: B+

Sion: They absolutely aced this rework. Story and character wise they made him appealing and badass. His hit is fun to use, impactful, satisfying, and unique, although a bit oppressive. I still think he was one of their best reworks. Overall Grade: A

Swain: I love who they turned Swain into. His model and character as well as his lore were the strongest part of his rework. Kit and gameplay wise, I really don't like him. I think he's clunky and unfun to fight against as well as kind of gimmicky, relying on the same combo over and over again. They didn't keep much of Swain's kit in tact and that's a shame. I feel they should have at least kept his old W. They tried to give him something unique with his passive pull and his soul fragments, but I think it just kinds feels shoehorned in like they were just trying to think of something unique to give to him. He also seems a bit oppressive to fight against. I think they should redo his kit. Oveall Grade: B-

Taric: Now Taric's rework, in contrast to Swain's, I think they did a really good job on. His lore and character are compelling and it still overall feels like Taric. The only complaint I have is that his model's face, hair, and cape leave a little to be desired. His kit is so elegant and simple while still being potent and unique and I think it's great. He still feels like Taric when it comes to his gameplay too and it's pretty fun to play as. He isn't even that op either and I don't often hear people complaining about him too much. Overall Grade: A

Urgot: Urgot's character was improved and his visuals are spooky and impressive now, but his gameplay feels gimmicky and oppressive and I think it needs another pass. Overall Grade: C+

Warwick: They did a great job updating Warwick's visuals and story, giving him a compelling character as a modified beast of Zaun seeking to hunt down the wrong-doers in the city. His gameplay hits close to home and in pretty much every way it feels like Warwick, just modernized. This is good because they didn't change what they didn't need to and it paid off. Overall Grade: A+

Yorick: Riot really turned one of the most unappealing characters in the game into someone cool and interesting that you can read the backstory of and grow attached to this poor somber guy. Visually I think they did a good job and his black mist cake is really iconic. They kept his minions summoner mechanic, but changed him a lot. That's not necessarily a bad thing though. They made him pretty unique as a champion that contributes yo his team with his ability to push really hard. Unfortunately, Yorick is absolute cancer to fight in my opinion. Like Malzahar, he summons a horde of little beasts that just run you down and even then he can just W and E you so you can't run away. He doesn't even have to directly fight you to still do a good amount of damage, and it's really unfun to fight. Overall Grade: B
