@Riot ChampUp/Art Team: Regarding the Homeless/Ambiguous Champions
I was wondering, generally, how champions who are in ambiguous places currently are dealt with when starting a rework/upgrade. How does the process start? Outdated visuals and thematic dissonance play a part in deciding who gets the updates, but what about the other aspects of a champion?
Take
, for example. Rammus is currently homeless and ambiguous. His lore was changed, some, to indicate he's from the Shuriman desert, but he still remains homeless, factionless, and completely ambiguous. Is he still an armadillo? How does he play into the world at large? Does Shurima's rising affect him at all in his journey? What gave him sentience? The Void? Shuriman Magicks? Biological waste runoff from Zaun? Hextech gone wrong from Piltover? Something else entirely? He is, probably, the quintessential ambiguous character of League, and he seems to remain that way despite having several avenues to pursue with his character.
Another example is, to an extent,
. While Zac has a bunch more background story and lore to him than Rammus, not much has been expanded on him since, even when opportunities to do so have presented themselves. If Zac is a protector of the weak in Zaun (and elsewhere), would that mean he's fought Jinx before? What sort of impact has he made on the world? If he's independent, faction-speaking, what other parts of Runeterra might he have been impacting? He is left pretty ambiguous and kind of weak story-wise. I say weak because "protecting the innocent" and "doing what's right" is a pretty flimsy goal without building and expanding on the how of it. Both Superman and Batman protect the innocent, but they don't do it in the same ways. So what's Zac's way? Also, why hasn't he gotten a suit by now?
Then you have entire regions that are unexplored and could use some expanding. An entire city-state is unexplored and several other regions seem forgotten. Kaladoun has no lore or champions associated with it at all, for example. Then you have the Shadow Isles vs Bilgewater situation. How is that a thing that isn't affecting more people since the Shadow Isles and Blue Flame Island are on completely opposite sides of the world? Even if you assume that the map of Runeterra we were given is the whole of everything that's on the planet (which I do not), it would still be a conflict that spans a large portion of the world's oceans, even if that's just Bilgewater fending off attacks on its shipping lanes. Surely other regions are affected other times besides The Harrowing and, even if they weren't, The Harrowing getting progressively stronger should be a worry for any of the great city-states, especially Demacia. There are holes and gaps in various places in the story that can be filled, and can be filled in interesting ways and possibly affect the game and its champions and allowing for more interactions between champions and nations. League, at times, feels like several static stories locked in place that only sometimes affects the world around them. Noxus vs Demacia. Zaun vs Piltover. Freljord's internal conflicts. They seem to happen in bubbles, and don't seem to have much of an effect, if any, on the world at large. Surely, Piltover or Zaun have something to gain from the struggles between Demacia and Noxus, and the reverse is also probably true. As advanced as some parts of Valoran are, why aren't they more connected to the world around them? Why isn't Noxus or Demacia taking advantage of the advancements made by Zaun or Piltover more readily?
I guess the TL;DR of it is: "y u no do mo' wit wat u a'ready gotz?"
and
, as well
if you must. Ammumu literally became a legend, a kids tale, to be told the young to as a good night story. Its not bad but I mean, it is worrying what might happen when some champions have to get looked at lore wise. Imagine they look at Veigar's lore and decided him to be just this Noxus Yordle who lives in the dumps, or maybe they turn him into some evil dood in a mountain some where.
