Is Mt. Targon Icathia? I think it is.

Obviously the Void and Mt Targon are deeply connected now; the arc-structures on the mountainside seem to be dormant portals to the void, and the void creatures that emerge at the mountain arrive directly from the Void, as evidenced by them arriving pale and "unscarred", then quickly "oxidizing" to the purple complexions we have known them for until now.

Now, the void element of Targon seem very inspired by Lovecraft's Mountains of Madness. It's striking that ol' Icathia was similarly Lovecraftian back in the day.

The mountainside ruins, The summit's otherwordly city, Icathia and the alien city in Lovecraft's novel all seem very analogous. The word "Cyclopean" is used in the new Targon text, the old Icathian text AND to describe the alien city in Lovecraft's Mountains of Madness, for instance. I think that's deliberate and very telling.

All in all, It seems likely to me that Targon will replace Icathia as the physical place most closely connected to the Void. Or, at least, they will both be closely connected.

It might be just rather close to Icathia. I mean it looks like Targon and Shurima are close together,so it wouldn't be out of question for Icathia to be close to Shurima AND Mt.Targon.

The way I'm thinking about things now is that the Shurimans got the Sun Disc or the means to create the Sun Disc from Mount Targon, and that the disc ties in with one of the planes that intersects with the mountain. The denizens of Icathia took it one step further and began exploring the possibilities by which they could open new gateways and junctions to other planes of existence, but in doing so they actually made the Void intersect with Runeterra where as before the two didn't meet at all.

In doing so it weakened the walls between the realities and allowed for a large scale Void invasion, which was only quelled when the Ascended of Shurima and the Aspects of Mount Targon joined together and led a bloody campaign in to Icathia, where probably thanks to Bard or something they stitched up the gaps in reality and stabilized the situation, but they couldn't completely separate the Runeterra and the Void, so the two peoples instead had folks scour the land and be prepared to tackle any void related shenanigans. With the decimation of the Lunari, the Solari enclosing themselves around Mount Targon and the collapse of the Shuriman empire there was no one left to keep check of the issue, and so the old wounds between Runeterra and the Void widened, allowing Voidborn to once again appear in the world.

I feel like the reason Mount Targon has void problems just like Shurima is because all planes that intersect with Runeterra also intersect with Mount Targon as sort of a convergence point between the planes. Soraka's Grove might be connected to somewhere in Ionia specifically but it can just as easily connect to Mount Targon. In that way when the Icathian's brought the Void much closer to Runeterra than ever before they also linked it to Mount Targon. Of course that's all just me speculating like a madman.

Also as a note for anyone who doesn't actually know what cyclopean is in the context of buildings, it's basically stone of varying sizes roughly fit together with no mortar work. It looks like this:

It's more indicative of primitive building practices more so than otherworldly construction. It was likely used by lovecraft initially to give the impression of truly ancient construction by beings that didn't grasp such ideas like proper masonry as we'd see it but were still capable of making immense buildings and structures despite this.

I don't think Mount Targon is Icathia, but rather it's a place with a close connection to both the Void and the Celestial City. Icathia had a similar connection, but it seems as though that connection was created artificially (and foolishly) rather than being a 'natural' one.

Note that we're told that this battle between the Celestials and the Void is something that has happened many times before, each time resulting in the ruination of the world that was. It makes me suspect that the world gets destroyed regardless of which side wins the battle. The Void and the Celestial Realm both have their own agenda, the physical universe is just getting caught in the crossfire.

As such, neither side would be good or evil. Like Bard, neither gives two shits about humanity. They've got their own ball game their playing, and if a few ants get stepped on during the match that's just the way it goes.
