do i really have to say more?
Warwick.
Jhin, honestly.

Everything about Vel'koz is done well
definitely, when I decided to start playing ranked seriously I analyzed all champions in the game and decided that newly released Ori was the most well designed balanced champion, thus it's best to 1 trick her and honestly I was right, she is always viable, rarely overpowered and thus rarely nerfed or banned. Bad thing is she is still to this day the best designed and one of the most balanced champions, which means RIOT has really fucked up on that front in following years, except for these guys who I consider great designs

Volibear
Some of my favorites are:

embodies the "trickster god" archetype almost perfectly imo. I think her short story could have emphasized her mischievous nature more, however, I look forward to seeing her meddling in affairs of future stories.
introduced the celestials in a manner I wish was done with the Targonians, and I can only hope that this is a sign for improved/ expanded Targon lore to come. Likewise
truly personifies the idea of a "fallen god-warrior", making the Darkin fallen Ascended truly cemented their place in Runterra history.
, as well as
are regular humans that were able to be portrayed as dangerous and vicious men based on their actions and speech alone. I look forward to this kind of portrayal of character impact for both super-human and regular champions, such moments when a character can "command" the story, are what defines a character's impact on the overall story and not their power levels.
(I personally hope to see this "Darius-mentality" from
and
in future stories)
Poppy's lore and art is adorable and awesome.
Can I do my favourite from each role?
Top:
- visually she's adorable and her personality and lore follows suit. Gameplay wise I love just being the walking incarnation of the word "no."
Jungle:
- Such a charming and wholesome champion. Willump is so adorable and such an interesting take on a yeti, and nunu's a little trooper. Love them both a lot and love playing them just as much.
Mid:
- I just think he's really cool.
Bot:
- Really cool fantasy, so fun to play, and her kit is so well designed. They took the idea of her feathers and incorporated it well throughout her whole kit.
Supp:
- Probably the most unique champion in the game visually. I think all of his abilities are so much fun and work together in some pretty cool ways.
I love this guy more than a lot of the characters I play I dig on his story and his abilities tie in with the stories and hes god-damned amazing
Ryze. But then again I'm biased this time soooo
Bard is my favorite champion, unique high ceiling and fun to play with against and on your team! Always a good time to get a chime
Thematically
Aesthetically

Best Potential

I'm a Vel'Koz main so...bias...shame on me [sg-soraka]
However, in his lore, to acquire knowledge and such he would even shove his tentacle on someone's eye and absorb their information. For a squid that's thirsty for knowledge, he would stop at nothing for anything whether useful or not.

There are so many that are good, so I'll just let my bias shine. Among the many candidates for this award, my personal favorite is Taric. Got a very clear backstory and good character motivation that fed into his persona. Really cemented his character for me.
The gameplay re-inforces the idea of protector very well. His kit has healing, shielding, AoE invulnerability, and all that stuff gets tied together by a passive that reinforces that idea that this is a front-lines type of healer. It's just perfect.
Like I said, many others also deserve honorable mentions, but he's a clear winner for me.
From a design perspective... lets see...
Most balanced....
easily. They have kits which allow them to be good in just about any meta, but only if you are skillful with the champion and know what you are doing. At the same time, they are immobile, have skill shots, and can be outplayed. They are the best balanced champions in the entire game not close.
However... best gameplay? That would be...
. They all have really smooth animations and abilities that build into each other. The Nunu and Warwick updates were also excellent modernization of their old kits.
Frankly I wish they would do another pass on Swain
. He's not bad, but he's certainly not good either. Heavily team reliant.
&
, Jhin i believe is very nearly perfect. Both have well defined characters and personalities, Both have a clear gameplay style, both having very clear counter-play and weak points. Both have extremly satisfying high moments, both I think can be balanced quite easily if the step out of line. However I'm more biased to Jhin due to his play style being more my style and his personality is so god damn fun.
Yasuo. His splash art really screams 100% Crit chance with two items. If you look at his katana blade, you can tell it's the sword of someone who has been blocking all incoming projectiles every 20 seconds. In second place though, is master yi. The first time I read his lore, I didn't get "press e and r once and q every time q is off cooldown to 1v5 the enemy team" from it. The second time I read it though, I still didn't get that meaning. On the third time, I really thought hard about the deeper meaning behind his character arc and I still didn't get that meaning. On the fourth time, I translated Yi's entire lore to swahili and it finally said "right click on an enemy champion once and you will auto the entire enemy team to death in a teamfight".
Perfection.

Also I’m going to trigger the boards and say
at least for visuals.
Her short story wasnt the best (I loved the story where she became aspect of twilight tho), but a child given godly powers who loves cute things etc. Her visuals, walk cycles, animations, voice are all just amazing, and while they seem kinda out of place in the world of league, she was a refreshing sight.
And her gameplay, while being a bit unfun to go against, it really does make a game feel like her playground, running around to burst someone, or getting creative with summoners, angles, and using walls. I just love creativity. She also was shown in a bad time in my life so having something that catered so well to what I've always wanted in this game was such an amazing feeling, I love her so much.
or
.. They are really elegant and refined and the VAs match it perfectly. They're evil, but you never get tired of listening to them. The sound effects on Jhins abilities directly relate to his deluded perversions of his "performances". And the whispers from Swains passive does give me warlock vibes. So I like them both

Im having some struggle finding a winner but Id say it has to be between aurelionsol and nunu. Its just there so parralel for there good designs. Asol is great as a new champion and has a cool aura to his base skin. Nunu on the other hand has the best rework and has a friendly aura to them. There the few champions that I dont use skins for just because there base design is that good. Also they both pass the birds eye test with flying colors .
