What can be done to Naut's lore to differentiate him from Pyke?

As some users (particularly SSmotzer, gg for beating me to the topic ya speed demon) have pointed out, Naut and Pyke seem to share a basic premise for their lore. Bilgewater dude gets left for dead under sea by crew, survives with supernatural empowerment, and comes back none too happy. I'm interested in what Riot will do to make sure they are distinct from eachother.

Here are some differences I've already noticed. 1: Pyke is more clearly undead due to the shadow isles glow in is eyes and, y'know, outright saying he died. Naut's... "condition" on the other hand could be void related or he's a "chosen one" for Nagakabouros (this theory is what I'm expecting and rooting for), all we have is "black ooze that grabbed em" for a lead.

2: Pyke is more about in your face horror; a ghostly serial killer who blindly lashes out at random civilians thinking that he is bringing Justice upon his "crew". Nautilus is more focused on fear of the unknown, just what the heck happened to him?

I like your ideas for Nautilus.

IIRC, Nautilus actually fought the undead during a Harrowing. That fits with the "chosen of Nagakabouros" bit and also sets him up as a rival for Pyke.

It's actually really interesting if you think about it, it's essentially the same story told in a different way, sailors left to drown by their crews, but which also lead to both of those champions to become pretty different characters. Pyke is essentially just a serial killer out for vengeance, going after those he finds "guilty" of his death, appearantly with a list of names. A lot of people compared this to Kalista, but the difference is that Pyke is doing all of this for his own selfish reasons, while Kalista seeks to punish all betrayers, not only those who betrayed her. And the difference to Nautilus might be that Pyke was left to die, even though he didn't need to which would be actual betrayal and what we can gather from Nautilus is that his crew left him to "die" because the ooze and the weight of his diving suit was dragging the entire ship down, which would've lead to everyone's "death". Now i'm being a bit skeptic about the death thing with Nautilus because it really doesn't seem that the ooze directly killed him, but merged him with his Suit, which might be, as you said, the doing of Nagakabouros.

We could make nautilus two lesbians in a giant suit of armor and then call everyone who disputes it as token inclusionist marketing a homophobe

that's my theory

We don't know much about Pyke its too early to compare to Nauts lore
