What Kind of Archtypes in Characters/Champions would you like to see in League?

I've asked this question before but I do like bringing it up every now and again. Every champion in the game brings a unique feel or archtype to the game. WW is a werewolf (essentially), Jhin is a stead artist psychopath, Kled shows about interaction as a mounted champion, Swain is a warlock due to a bird demon, etc. Each of these champs brings either a unique style or theme to the game, despite some being more annoying than others( YASUO) or some just not hitting their marks quite right (Kai'sa).

So it begs the question on what archtypes we'd like to see next in future champions or at the very least characters in League's occasional stories. For my personal list:

  • Underlord/ Pit Fiend - I love the Underlord in Dota 2. I do. He's fun to play but his looks are just neat to me. He's a harbinger of doom, bringing forth legions of demon into the world to cause chaos, and that is shown great in his model. It'd also be interesting to see more demon champs brought into the game/story since Eve was made by the Rune War and Tahm... I don't recall how Tahm was made, if ever that was told. Nevertheless, an archtype that I'd love to see.

  • Anti-Hero Demacian - This one would just be interesting to me. Right now, almost everyone from Demacia has this noble and good always feel to them, outside of say Shyvana a bit and Vayne, who's basically turned into murder hobo Batman for the greater good. What I want to see though is a character that kind of breaks that mold, to maybe go beyond the line between what is considered heroic or villainous. I've tried making a character like this in the past because I feel it would be an interesting concept, especially with a country like Demacia. Think of them like an super anti-magic person that just so happens to be a bit of Frollo from the Hunchback of Notre Dame, always suspecting everyone and maybe taking certain accounts that seem just to them but way over the line to others.

  • Cleric/Paladin-type character - Idk, I've always felt like there should be some character like this. Some heroic figure that not only fights along side his allies but also buffs and heals them admist the chaos of battle. Either a battle priest or a really good heal-in-combat paladin, I could see a few possibilities for someone like this. Taric kind of fit's this in a sense, you can argue that, but I just feel like there could be another choice that better represents this.

Those are just my ideas but what about the rest of you?

We should have an archtype simular to the typical league board user who downvotes posts for no reason, maybe he could be some sort of invertebrate swine creature.

Taric is exactly what you describe a Cleric/Paladin to be, we aren't getting any closer to a paladin than him. You may not play Taric, but he can only heal if he is fighting, you can't sit 10 yards back and heal your allies like soraka.

An archetype that is vacant from league is a champion who is actually a coward (closest we have is skaarl I think). It seems like literally every character is headstrong, confident, and ready to fight anyone and everyone. I'd like to see a character who is actually scared shitless of League's roster and resorts to less direct forms of combat to try to preserve their life. Maybe this character could be a thief that manipulates the pocketed gold of players, just a thought.

A Sphinx that is a zone control mage.

Why not combine your bottom two suggestions? That has the potential to work really well, with a sort of retribution priest who goes full "Deus Vult".

I like the idea of the first suggestion, too, but Riot would need to do it in a way that doesn't rip off the Burning Legion.

Personally, I'd like a Noxian riding a drakehound. I know we somewhat recently had Kled for a cavalry character, but come on... it would be cool.

Also, a bona fide Targonian spirit (not an Aspect, but the god inhabiting the Aspect) would be nice, especially because we don't really know much of Targon's motivations.

This sounds a lot to me like Vayne. I mean aside from the Frollo bit, she fits the Demacian anti-hero/anti-magic extremist bit extremely well; the only problem is that her current visual design isn't up to speed with modern League.

In terms of character archetypes, I'd love to see a sphinx at some point. Shurima is where most people would expect it to be from, but I think a more interesting avenue would be to make it a cursed guardian of the Shadow Isles and its underground artifacts/crypts.

For me there are quite a few that I'd like to see in the game:

  • A Wrestler(and no skins don't count) - Could be a noxian gladiator who fights big monsters with his bare hands.

  • An old hag - Seriously this one actually seems like an obvious character archetype that is still not in the game

  • A master thief - Again, this is a pretty obvious archetype that doesn't feel like its properly represented in the game.Sure Twisted fate comes close to this, but he just doesn't feel like a thief, just like a gambler and card master.

  • A Sphinx - This one was already mentioned by other comments and is something I'd really like to see

  • An Imp and a Pit Fiend - Since the Darkin are designed after classical demons I really hope that they'd represent these character archetypes instead of being just demonlooking guys.

  • An Oni - Could also be a darkin, but given that there are only 2 slots for darkin left I'd say that these should go to the ones I've mentioned above.

  • A Bat champ - Could be an undead vastaya(or just a vastaya in general),might actually feel more like a real vampire than Vlad(though I doubt we'll ever get a full vampire in the lore)

  • A multiarmed character who actually uses his arms for physical attacks.

There are others I'd like to see in the game, but for now these are the ones I'd like to see the most.

Medic

The only thing resembling the medic archetype is Dr. Mundo, but he is just a crazy psychopath, who misunderstood the concept of a doctor. I want a true medic champion (most likely from Piltover), using a hextech device to cure people. Lorewise, I could imagine that this champion is researching a cure for the diseases caused by the Zaun Grey.

Chemtech Augmented Female / Chembaron

I put these together, since we could get rid of both at the same time. Zaun lacks female champions (12 champions in total, just 2 of them female) and additionally, every champion that has any kind of relation to Chemtech is male. Urgot Zac Twitch Singed Warwick

And we already got stories of champions hunting the chembarons in Zaun. Camille Urgot Warwick I think it would be great to add such a chembaron to the champion roster.

Data Analyst / Hacker

Basically a hikikomori. Hyper intelligent person, analysing all data available. I could imagine such a champion working together with the police of Piltover. Caitlyn Vi But just from the background, giving instructions and such.

Since we know, that hextech uses the soul crystals of Skarners kind, I always imagined such a champion having a sentient hextech device. The crystal in the device awakened and gained its own personality.

Plant Alchemist

I know, we already have Singed as the Alchemist archetype, but hear me out there. Singed represents the bad side of science and alchemy. He is cruel, he uses humans for his experiments, he works with poison and other stuff. He completely lacks a moral compass.

I could imagine another good champion from there, representing the other side of science. Trying to help the people in Zaun with Alchemy, but using natural ingredients for that. Inspiration for that are the plants we got in the jungle, I would like to have a champion, who has kit interactions with these.

Imagine a jungler champion, who can use smite on plants to harvest them and doing something with them for his abilities. In lore, the inspiration are the cultivairs in the depth of Zaun. Ever since I read about these oasis of nature in this polluted city, I wanted a story of a champion visiting one secretly to enjoy the peace there. Breaking into one at night. Such a champion could break into the cultivairs of chembarons regularly, to get new plants as ingredients for the next alchemical experiment.

A wise, elderly woman, possibly from Ionia, Freljord, Shurima, or not belonging to any faction/region. A woman who's traveled far and wide and is very knowledgeable about the world and it's inhabitants. Would possibly be a mage or enchanter of some kind. Or, more unique, she could be well versed in alchemy and use a variety of potions and poisons in battle. Would be a good support, would think of their ADC as a child that requires their care. Or, she could be totally bad ass and be a midlaner.

Something that will probably never happen, but an actual Pacifist champion that has no abilities that do damage to enemies. Could use helpful spells such as Haste, Slow, Sleep, Polymorph, Silence, ect.

Kled Man Walking5/25/2018, 5:39:37 PM1 votes

a psion.

league has a whole sears catalogue of magic in different flavors, but i don't feel like we have a proper psychic in the game yet. bonus points if they also have horrific mutations from their psionic powers, because that's always fun.

OurLestrade5/24/2018, 8:54:08 PM1 votes

Drill Sergeant Noxian Support, which Kled sort of hogs the character for. Bonus points if he says "Ionians, I hate those guys" and has a strong human superiority complex. Taric's effectively been made the Paladin/Cleric I've wanted for years, so that's all that's really left on my personal to do list.

Some sort of Vastayan Titan maybe related to Bilgewater and has a Cecaelia-esque vibe to it

Riot legit literally only creates Archetypes. Like 90% of the roster is an archetype and not actually a character with a booming story. Why not put comic material or like . . . some kind of material to these characters in the game?

Darius Noxus characters: "You know we're the bad guys, because we speak like brain from Pinky and the Brain. We're intelligent and have abstract thoughts and quotes." Oh by the way, Zamerok.

Garen "You know we're the bad guys, because we speak like Pinky from Pinky and the Brain. We have a super limited vocabulary, repeat things that are heroic and only come across intelligent for ironic and comedic reasons." Oh, by the way, Saradomin.

Irelia "EQUAL. EQUALITY. EQUILIBRIUM. THE EQUAL SYMBOL. NATURAL. GUTHI- ER- UH- I MEAN SPIRITUALITY." Oh, by the way, Guthix.

Kayle "Lmao I'm an Angel look at my wings and colors" Morgana "Lmao I'm a fallen angel look at my wings and colors"

Olaf "Viking btw. Viking. That is all." Sivir "MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY MONEY" Azir "ROYALTY. EMPIRE. CONQUEROR BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT EMPIRES DO." Diana "Lol moon . . ." Leona "Lol sunlight . . ." Annie "Literally all of my quotes emphasize that I'm a child that kills people. TOTES hasn't been done before mate. At least they didn't go boss baby." Amumu "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3AA7Ub1c2cI"

Camille "Insert superiority complex here." Urgot "Insert superiority complex here." Draven "Insert superiority complex here." Graves "I'm a rootin tootin cowbabe- but I can't smoke muh cigar hue hue hue-"

Multi-persoanlity charactr, jinx kinda does it with fishbone but that more projecting than actually being someone else

a super selfish/possessive/greedy character like Gollum from lotr or Larfleez the orange lantern

One of those reptilian butterfly vastayan

There are many, but right now I think these would be cool:

1. A Hex mage, control mage able to empower ally stats and skills (as in direct buff of concrete skills), while also able to debuff enemy units with various curses and casting, and even altering the skills so they deal unexpected negative effects

Ex: Ezreal enemy: I'm gonna flash with e Hex mage: Lucky you! Now you also got slowed because you used that skill while marked by me "You just activated my trap card!"

Extra points if it's a Demacian, because of ironic motives, the best kind of motivation to do anything

2. Elementalist mage, seriously, there are mages from every element, but only Lux and Xerath attained elementalism? one of the coolest magic traits ~~Up there along with alcoholism magic, only used by Gragas ~~

3. Huge hydra champion that preys on voidborns, able to go toe to toe in a colossal battle with Chogath. Each head has a different personality and develops more up to a point everytime it dies, becoming a more complex character every time. Also it being related to any Hydra item that appears would be nice, kinda like these being remains of each head/personality that succumbed to an enemy Who's the Top Predator now B****?!

**4. A void parasite that is made for jungling, able to inhabit jungle creatures to devour them from inside, obtaining both knowledge and buffs/traits, similar to what old smite did on jungle monster, but better. ** No, Kai'sa doesn't count, her suit is a void parasite, and god knows its one lucky parasite that really enjoyed where he stopped covering her body, but it is mostly unable to separate from her or even be a character at all

5. A lovecraftian like abomination related to the depths, and to Pyke and the blackwater skins, something that by lore and by skills can cause fear, madness and illusions I know what you are thinking, but can't be, it being made by CertainlyT would only cause fear and madness, we still need the illusions part, maybe adding a trickster glass to the mix...

How about A Yandere with a crush on Malzahar and thus is out hunting Kassadin and Kai'sa? Kassadin has a rivalry with Malzahar, Kai'sa hints at one with Kha'xis but he is already taken by Rengar so why not give Kai'sa a Rival?

Or a counterpart to Kindred who gives life to babies when they are born?

Wild Geese5/24/2018, 10:47:21 PM1 votes

A veteran Knight, could fit into the Paladin archetype. Honorable and wise.

Evil rogue swordsman/Yasuo's brother. (I imagine him like Genjuro from Samurai Spirits)

It's strange but it's been like 5 years since we had a character who uses a sword.

I'd like to see a crystal monster whose people were attacked, with their bodies harvested for the crystal, and so the monster seeks out a bunch of crystals which were taken by thieves. It'd also be really cool if most of their abilities had some level of CC to them, and they had towers around the map which they could use for certain buffs like more speed, and vision of the area when they capture them. Also, a cool mechanized skin of smoke and fire would be neat. Preferably an 1820 one.

I also have a couple of other ones, which are assassins bc am a filthy assassin main.

  • A proper Targonian god and goddess assassin of time & space respectively, which inhabit one celestial body. Unlike Kayn or Jayce tho, they don't have alternate abilties/effects based on a specific form. Rather, they have certain abilities, that when linked together have an effect, kind of like Ryze. They also technically don't have an ultimate, like Udyr. This character would most likely fit in Mid, and be built as a hybrid assassin. I think I'll actually expand more on this idea in a separate thread...

  • A Zaunite/Piltovan robot which is built out of nanobots powered by a Hextech crystal. I mean, we have Blitz and Ori, but I mean, we need a proper edgy assassin robot, and Piltover is sorely lacking in the assassin department. No, I don't consider Vi and Jayce as assassins. Perhaps Ori has a crush on him/it? Maybe he/it has a crush on her? Do robots dream of electric love-making? He/It moves around like the Decepticons in Transformers: Age Of Extinction. (See below). His mobility is also similar to that. In terms of his/its motivation, I see the robot as one who is built for an offensive purpose (perhaps Viktor built him), and eventually gains emotions and a conscience. Perhaps the crystal being used is one of the ones which the crystal monster seeks out, and the emotions and conscience bleeds out from it and into the robot, giving it characteristics and traits of whoever/whatever the crystal belonged to originally (while not being the actual monster's identity). Well, I mean, if the robot has emotions, I guess he's not as edgy as Zed or Kayn.
