I'm out of the loop, what's the issue with Kai'sa?

GothicV2·4/8/2018, 5:38:46 PM·16 votes·5,082 views

I get the whole "overly sexualized" article thing. I read it.

But is all this happening over a V-line? and Riot is going to re-design her suit for that purpose soon?

If they really are re-designing it, then wow.

I haven't heard anything about a re-design, so until someone links a direct statement from Riot assume that's just a rumor.

Basically, there were complaints about the Kai'Sa when she released, and Riot recently answered some questions where they talked about Kai'Sa's design and why they made the choices they did. Some people took Riot's statements the wrong way, and instead of hearing "we understand the concerns and agree we could have handled this better" they heard "we did this on purpose" and got all offended.

For a short TL:DR for anyone who didn't read what Riot said, Riot tried having a more normal suit design for Kai'Sa, where the neck didn't dip down anywhere near that low. Kai'Sa's design didn't get the idea across that Kai'Sa is a human in a Void suit properly, with her head being so small and the only human part of her showing. They messed around with the design a bit, found that the current idea got the human aspect across properly, and ran with it. Riot agrees they should have looked into other ideas a bit more, considering the original intent behind the champion.

Think it was riot taking things they wanted to take it. A lot of people weren't particularly happy that the only new void champion since rek'sai was literally "Girl in a suit." instead of a twisted eldritch alien thing. Riot apparently heard those complaint and were like "Guess its the V neck guys.".

They can get rid of the V neck, its not going to change the underlying problem of her design being "Girl in suit." instead of a twisted alien abomination with only the barest traces of humanity remaining.

such is the power of people who specialize in being offended by everything i think

Hexs Fortune4/9/2018, 1:33:09 AM11 votes

Basically everything from the void had been monstrous Kassadin Malzahar Velkoz Chogath RekSai Khazix

Then the first humanoid female representation of it was presented in a skin tight suit with some chest showing and bearing a nice clean face reminiscent of Irelia in bad lighting

Riot said they wanted to show some skin to reinforce that Kaisa was still human, but it ended up making her come off a bit sexier than they were going for.

Then everyone lost their minds and started a crusade against others who don't think like them

As the boards tends to do...

You're out of the loop on this?

Great.

Don't get in there, just don't.

SupaDupaDog4/8/2018, 9:49:37 PM9 votes

People pointed out its kinda weird how the exo skin suit shows off some boob for no real reason

Riot explains how the V neck happened in the design process, agrees it is ultimately kinda weird, and remarks they'll keep it in mind in the future

The board turns the dial up to 11, insinuates stuff needlessly, and makes sure the conversation happens from the most angry, inflamed positions.

Usual internet discourse stuff.

No its not just the V line.

Some people are upset just about the V line. For most people it is a combination of her looking like a super model after coming out of hell mutation world for years, her having the same generic hour glass figure just because, and the V line.

If they take away the V-neck from Ka'sai. I expect EVERY FRICKING MALE in t-shirts or to be covered up. Or they are hypocrites.

The issue in question is that many players have criticized Kai'Sa's design for having a lot of inconsistencies, among them the fact that she looks more like an Instagram model than an actual survivor, and that her suit's visual presentation makes very little sense in terms of actual combat capabilities. Riot tried to explain this by saying they gave her a plunging neckline to better convey that she was human, an excuse that didn't really ring true to many players. Unfortunately, a few media outlets interpreted this as an apology for oversexualizing Kai'Sa (it wasn't), and as a result a lot of very angry posters rushed to the defense of tits in video games on GD. Basically, the problem right now on the Boards is that a lot of people are misinterpreting the subject of discussion regarding Kai'Sa, and are reacting to criticism of her character and visual design as if it were an attack on all sexy female characters in video games, which again isn't the case. TL;DR, the issue with Kai'Sa isn't that she's sexy, but that the way in which she was made to be sexy directly conflicts with her purported identity as an apex predator optimized for combat, thereby creating a dissonance between her character and her visuals.

There really isn’t, the boards just love taking everything Riot does as a personal insult.

Haering4/8/2018, 6:56:24 PM2 votes

Sorry I must of missed something. In which article has Riot said they would redesign her?

FCJAAAAGOOOO4/8/2018, 9:20:54 PM2 votes

She's attractive but why?

On the flip-side why not make Cho'Gath, Kog'Maw and Vel'Koz attractive?

  • Ppl were concerned that she looked too pretty to be some1 living at the edge of the Void.
  • Time passed, ppl accepted it.
  • Some idiot made some rukus about her V neck being somehow too sexy to handle.
  • Riot apologized and set things to cover that OH SO SEXUAL sternum.

They basically threw a "Tracer victory pose".

It's because when people hear "Woman trapped in the void for years before returning" their imaginations went wild with all the crazy corruption effects that would happen to her, how much she would be human and how much would be unrecognizable space alien, how little sanity she'd have left.

Riot delivered a hot chick in spandex. They subverted our expectations in a way that delivered a character barely a fraction as interesting as what we were imagining. This is so bad that it doesn't only make Kai'sa uninteresting, but takes all lore related to the Void and makes it slightly less interesting.

It's ridiculous. People always have to complain about something. My only issue with her is her bland personalty and voice. I don't care about her design. It's fine.

Reiizm4/9/2018, 10:41:34 AM1 votes

I would hardly call removing the V-line a "redesign".

T4underbolt4/8/2018, 9:17:36 PM1 votes

Well this is the generation of highly offended individuals. What else do you expect when all the kids that riot caters to are offended by every little thing. It's also the reason why riot only punishes verbal abuse and nearly never a troll.

Mcsquzzy4/9/2018, 1:30:02 AM1 votes

yes we should get angry whenever we see a wahmen wearing a deep v neck

princeblumpkin4/9/2018, 12:51:26 AM1 votes

The deep V neck is a bit gratuitous and seems strange for the character, but it's really not that big of a deal.
