Still make him petricite, but the black mist didn't work like normal magic.. It wasn't absorbed like normal magic. Like negative-magic.

It deactivates Galio, who lays dormant for ages. And then lore stuff happens and stuff I haven't thought about which awakens him to a world where his beautiful society is darkness and death.

Hmm, Since they were protected by the mist they really didn't need any defense or army.

The backlash for changing his character so much with his VGU was already pretty big, the playerbase would have been even more upset if they had changed him from a Demacian to a Shadow Isles champion.

And considering the new lore of Demacia being extremely afraid of magic, I think he still works pretty well in that region. If it makes sense, why change it?
