Will it ever be explained why the Snake Statue turns you into a powerful snake human as a "Curse".

Because if you ask me, it seems like that curse has more plus then minus. When I think curses I think of something like a rain cloud over your head for the rest of your life, or never being able to everything tasting like cauliflower, not giving them mystical snake powers.

Would you really refuse The Curse of Taric if it made you irresistibly beautiful but your arm are made of gems?

Really seems like a minor thing that you'd get over after a moment of clarity.

Honestly curses often go in both ways. Giving you something that can be quite awesome, but in exchange for something else.

Cassiopeia lost her beauty, which was actually quite important to her. She is basically a seductress who is now forced to be a mage, because she can't seduce anyone anymore.

And overall we don't know much about her curse, her selection quote "There is no antidote for me." sounds like her curse might do even worse things to her over time(maybe turning her into a full snake,or outright killing her)

It's a curse because in ancient Shurima this probably meant lifelong exile and loneliness.

It's like a medival branding. It's a mark that won't go away, tells everyone that you did something horrible, and probably allows everyone to deny you help or even kill you.

Well, in ancient Shurima at least, it would be an easy way for people to identify thieves/graverobbers at a glance, causing one to become an outcast and make it easy to determine guilt.

She basically got ascended for free.

I suppose in a world without the Internet there aren't many lady-snake lovers, so it counts as a curse for seducers like Cassie.

Some reason why being bite by a wolf and becoming a werewolf is seen as a curse. Another one is being curse to become a undead monster. A normal person see this thing as a curse why some other see as a blessing.

Maybe... she had poison powers before the curse?

Disulfiram5/8/2016, 1:38:48 PM2 votes

It's a curse because you can no longer have sex. Ever. Because your lower half is a snake.

You can lay eggs though...

You are making the assumption that a highborn Noxian Lady was weaker before. I mean, she survived in that enviornment, she must have had some skills.

I like the sexuality post that someone made on analyzing sexuality and how well it fits/explains League's females. There, I think it was suggested that Cassiopeia's former occupations and passion as a seductress has been denied her by her new form that most will find repulsive, so she compensates by being overly sexual in her gestures and personality even though she knows her advances and offers won't be accepted. I like this semi-tragic/compulsive version of her.

The "there's no antidote for me" line most likely is both meaning her actual poison and her curse not being reversible.

And weighing in on if it's actually a curse or not: Yes, because she can no longer do what she was used to doing in seducing people (though that doesn't stop her from trying). And manipulating isn't so easy anymore either (you hear her story, you see she's a snake, etc.). But she can now do the good ol' Noxian thing and just straight up destroy people physically, so it works out. But i think deep down she won't able to get over the fact that people find her repulsive, a part of herself she was able to hide before.

Cassiopeia is largely based on the story of Medusa. In Greek Mythology, Medusa was a beautiful maiden until the god Poseidon had sex with her (read: he raped her) in Athena's temple. Athena cursed Medusa so her hair turned to snakes and her face would be so terrible that onlookers would turn to stone. Her blood in some interpretations also turned into snakes.

The sex and rape is gone, but the curse is still there in Cass' backstory. You have the snake motif and you have the stone (her ult "stones" anyone looking in her direction), but it's interpreted just slightly differently from the story of Medusa. Gameplay and story segregation just makes the stone gaze last a second or two in-game, as opposed to, you know, forever, and in effect all the time. Her still looking beautiful, though, that fits quite in line with the kinds of curses you commonly see in mythologies (see: King Midas). She is still the aspiration of suitors everywhere, but to gaze upon her face is to invite death.

That, and human fetishes have mutated and normalized viciously in recent memory.

The loss of working legs might be frustrating to her.

It probably a lonely life after getting turned half snake. And with the powers people may even fear you more and get more isolated.

You have to take into account the VANITY of anchient Shurima. Based on what we know, this type of thing WAS branding and exile, much like a mark of cain sort of thing- it protected you, but made you a monster forever. Look at the beings in the deserts of Shurima... you'd need that protection.

I wonder if cassiopeia will still be katarinas sister in her lore update, that always seemed kinda weird and tacked on to me

Meep Man5/9/2016, 5:07:24 PM1 votes

Think of what it would do to you outside of combat purposes.

Wind Whistler5/10/2016, 2:31:29 AM1 votes

Nasus : The venom sears her flesh like acid.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want to be cursed if it meant having that happen to me.

Helmight5/10/2016, 5:47:02 AM1 votes

She can't wear her nice shoes anymore though. That's enough of a curse for a seductress like Cass :P

BLU Medic5/10/2016, 12:31:01 PM1 votes

It may be awesome power-wise, but for someone who's always prided themselves on being professionally really, really, really good-looking, it's a horrible, agonizing thing to wake up and find that they're now really, really, really ugly.

Of course, Cassiopeia has to adapt, she's a Noxian and she'll lose everything else if she doesn't, so she makes the most of her new form. She probably had to teach herself how to move again.
