Nasus Lore Inconsistency

A Superb Villain·5/3/2016, 10:58:05 PM·11 votes·1,138 views

> Nasus is an imposing, jackal-headed Ascended being from ancient Shurima, a heroic figure regarded as a demigod by the people of the desert. Fiercely intelligent, he was a guardian of knowledge and peerless strategist whose wisdom guided the ancient empire of Shurima to greatness for many centuries. After the fall of the empire, he went into self-imposed exile, becoming little more than a legend. Now that the ancient city of Shurima has risen once more, he has returned, determined to ensure it never falls again.

"Shurima is not of this time." "Perhaps Shurima was meant to fall." "Some things must remain buried."

It feels very awkward having Nasus' lore proclaim he has every intention of assisting Azir in ensuring that Shurima, the empire, never falls again, whereas in his voice-acting he speaks with resignation. It sounded like he was of the opinion that the empire fell, the past is past, and drudging it up again would bring more harm than good. So why is he suddenly so intent on protecting the returned empire?

He could still be debating what he thinks is right. I wouldn't put it past Nasus to lie to Azir for his reasons of coming back to Shurima either (as I imagine he does have doubts for Shurima, but realizes that Azir needs someone helping him in this new world).

Have you seen the hard-on Azir has for Shurima? I doubt he'd take Nasus's help if the jackel said anything doubtful of Shurima.

I mean, it was his home for one thing but thinking about it, I feel like this line particularly is important "determined to ensure it never falls again". Nasus doesn't want another Xerath situation on his hands. If anything I can imagine him being determined to make sure it doesn't fall is him wanting to steer things in the right direction so the empire doesn't end up as it was in the past; rife with slavery and strife until its eventual ruin. He was a hero of Shurima and he probably loved it immensely considering how broken he sounds when talking about it.

In an ideal world, Shurima should have never arisen, but now that it has, Nasus is determined to not repeat the mistakes of the past so that Shurima may live up to its name as the grandiose empire it once was. At least that's how I see it. It's not like Nasus is happy to see Shurima's legacy reborn, but he'll do whatever it takes to right it.

Two words: outdated voiceover

Ok I haven't seen anyone say it so I guess I will. Nasus, Rammus, and Skarner all have their Shurima lores updated next patch so all these inconsistencies will go away. No worries

Well none of these quotes necessarily mean that he is against rebuilding shurima.(the last one could easily refer to Renekton and Xerath)

I mean yes, shurima might not be of this time and perhaps it was doomed to fall, but now they can rebuilt it after having learnt from the past mistakes.

The issue with having lore that actually progresses is that champions start blabbing about things that've already been fixed. Imagine how Yasuo's VO will sound once he actually clears his name :P

I logged in to say that nasus is a very old champion and that his voice over is stuck way back when shurima has not risen yet and azir has not returned. When Azir did return, his opinions may have changed.

Don't forget the Shurima lore videos.

"The tragic fall of Shurima was nothing, compared to the tragedy of it's rise from the grave."

I liked it better when Nasus was against Shurima's fall, recognizing why it did and why it, and it's Sun Disc, cannot prosper, because it breeds people like Xerath.

It could be him justifying his failure of protecting Sherima, leading him to say that it had to fall. But now that it has risen again, he could have realised that it was not too late, and he could still save it(or at least prevent it from having to be saved). Its along the lines of someone who is mourning the loss of a loved one saying "Well, everyone has to die sometime", they are trying to bury the grief("Some things must remain buried.") with dispassionate realism.

That's my take on it, because how could you protect an empire for thousands of years, and not care for it? The grief would of destroyed him, so he protected himself by convincing himself that he did not care about it, and giving himself the small relief of guilt by saying it had to end sometime.

I always read "Perhaps Shurima was meant to fall." as Nasus trying to reassure himself that the fall was for the best, despite his grief.

"Some things must remain buried" I had interpreted as refering to Xerath and Renekton.
