About Galio after some thought

Ok so i have been sulking all day about the new Galio rework... and now im going to compile my thoughts both positive and of course the negative. i will also put a poll for opinions.

Pros: i do believe Galios old kit (mostly being flash reliant and high CD) was a pain to manage and could have been very feast or famine with his flash ults and way less useful when both are not up. His Q seems to have been reworked into a mix of his old E and Q (both lackluster) Old Q being too slow (Which this may seem to have a similar issue) Old E not really dealing muhc dmg and used mostly for utility (And very similar to Noc) His new E ( i assume) is a nice gap closer and maybe escape, but it is very similar to a VI ult. I am aware that he will still have an AOE taunt, so ill assume thats his W and i am hoping it works similarly to a mix of his old R and W; since it is obvious which new skill is his new ULT His new ult being a supportive ability and casting on an ally is interesting and i suppose can fill those defender type of design.

Cons: Visually he went from Demonic to a masculine Statue of Liberty with goat legs, they overused the 3 pronged designs and got rid of the gold motifs and just thrown in large gold wings with a gold chest piece and random gold tridents. He is drastically different from his old identity, visually and personality. He was a golem that was down on himself and pulled himself out of depression with inspiration; deciding to become this down to earth hero that demacia needs: now he seems to have fallen into this flashy cocky LoL troupe where he ES NUMBERO UNO, youre welcome. he went from this demonic hunched golem that was fashioned to look like a gargoyle (ironic to his nature) to a greek god statuesk/statue of liberty that is an overly proud overzealous defending of everything good.

Possible small fixes and hopes: im hoping that his w is similar to how it was before, but i guess with more balance since it was kind of on the OP side previously between huge defense boosts, some of the best heals, and synergizes too well with his old ult which gave another redic dmg red boost and with courage was pretty much unkillable with 50 health against a full team. maybe his new w would do similar effects but with less dmg red or less tank stats but roots himself during the aoe taunt so you cant be mobile AND unkillable. (more fair to play around) visually i feel like he needs a little more of the golden accents as of previously AND still have his eye glow... sure it wont fit to be red anymore but maybe something more like a golden glow. the dull dark eyes are kind of lack luster on his new already basic lack luster face.

i have more opinions that i will share as the thread goes on but this is the majority of what is running through my head right now. Tell me a sentence of what you like and dont like about the new galio as of yet, and vote in my poll for curiousity

If old Galio had something, was good lore and theme. New Galio is the complete opposite, seems like it will have good game play but generic superhero lore.

Idk why people are saying he sounds cocky, yeah he does give off that kinda super hero vibes, but as a giant walking statue that practically is an entire country's number 1 defense/weapon. Wouldn't you walk with a pep in your step? Imagine all the people and children looking at you with pride. He very well may retain his old lore where there was a point where he dealt with depression of being a failure as a protector, but it is clear in his rework he is past that stage. In my opinion I get the vibe of a humble and noble protector with his own self doubts but puts on a face on because he know he has generations of people looking up to him. I get this vibe from the teaser when he says " HohohoHohooo! Bring it!" because contrary (imo) to someone who is as cocksure as the community thinks he is, he says it under his breath, almost.

He does not look like galio anymore, galio was bestial, this is...A marble man with a tail.

I Like that he looks like he's from Demacia now, he matches the statues we've seen in Universe and he's no longer struggling to fill two roles at as an anti-mage tank and a mage. What I don't like is that they may retcon his lore, it had a lot of heart, and emotion, and I'd be sad to see it go, but I'll withold judgement until they release it, since they did a great job with Viktor. I understand that Old Galio resonates with a lot of veteran players because it was such a representation of league's older champ design, (very colorful with a slightly comedic appearance) but given the cohesion Riot intends to bring to the different factions existing at the same time, they had to flesh out their designs. This has a side effect of leading to visual changes to champions whose themes are dependent on the design of the city. (Look at Warwick and how he looks like he's from Zaun now). I think it will take some getting used to, and I don't think older players who spent game after game seeing his old form will ever properly move on, but it is a step in a direction to bring a bit more recognition to a champion's affiliation. Riot has probably decided to ensure that it is clear where each champion hails from : Warwick from Zaun, Yorick from the Shadow Isles, Poppy's affiliation with Demacia, Sion's Dark Noxian background, and so on. Galio no longer looks like an outcast who wandered into Demacia and decided to stick around, He no represents the Strength of a Nation that is his HOME, his Birthplace, and His cause to fight.

I'll have to think on it... but for starters I do not like how a departure it is from Galio, you barely can see it's a rework and not a whole new champ, theme, personality, ect. Lore seem inspired by him tho . I do 'like' him if I remove that he's replacing Galio, kit wise not super into it, seems a little bit of a straight forward engage kit, little room for very interesting plays other then going right in. He's great for peal tho. That is handy.

Biggest disappointment is her personality change, he a overall goofy-meathead over an eloquent solemn character. His sad past/situation is themed off of his old lore but how he acts and look is so happy, super hero. I keep scratching my head, wondering ,why did they even NEED to change him? When all they needed was an updated model, maybe a color change to more white/off white, a better kit/reworked kit. His old lore could/should have been easily fit into the new direction easily. His voice actor is very good, and I can hear plenty of potential for them to have made him fit with his old personality and with some of their new theme. Makes me sad they didn't care to try to keep the old still in him and add more depth for a fresh more complete character. They seem to like to start-over all new and go a new direction more with these reworks. More into create their own things, make their mark, then to fix up and keep the old League working and updated.

Since he comes off as a new champ more then a rework, I feel that this 'Colossus' easily could have existed along side Galio. Galio was a construct for Durand's personal protection while the 'Colossus' is for defense of a city ect. I guess I can all ways tell myself that haha, even that Durand was senile and named them all Galio XD

I only played Galio once or twice, but I did exclusively play Viktor mid for like 2 years, straight, so I fought him a whole bunch. It's really hard to connect new Galio to old Galio in any significant way. Others have said it before me, I'm sure, but he's a new champion. Conceptually, there was no need to save over Galio with Galio 2.0.

Sure, you could say the same thing about any remake/rework/relaunch, but it's never seemed quite as glaring before, as it is with Galio. He's simply not resemblant of his former self. His role, his attitude, his lore, his visual aesthete, his playstyle - it's all different.

If I was half as enthusiastic about Galio, as I am about Viktor, I wouldn't be able to bring myself to log in and play after seeing such a radical change (in a rather cheesy, 'market appeal' direction, to boot) - so, coming purely from a horrified 'they could have done this to MY guy' perspective, I think it's rather cruel. And I use that word, deliberately. Galio has a fanbase that loves him, like any other champ. If Ez was reworked into a pure mage with long-distance snipes and a sombre, melancholy attitude, you better believe the update would be cancelled before making it to live.

But invert the attitude and apply it to underground Galio's fanbase, and you'll find your posts ignored, and your opinions generally irrelevant.

Riot should've treated you guys better. If they wanted an entirely new champion, they didn't have to delete your character's spot, to do it.

I find it very mean-spirited. 'Eat what we give you'-esque.

RiP sweet prince. I one tricked you for years. Peaked In low diamond. Had the 5th highest mastery points in the world and was in top 20 Galios in the world. Goodbye my love. I think imma make a YouTube funeral video for Galio.

I do think i'll enjoy his kit a lot. I don't mind the white and gold, since that's the direction they're going with Demacia now. However, i do find his new design very...different. I didn't think i would miss the hunched over gargoyle with claws and big wings as much as i thought i would. I don't hate the new design (except maybe the face), but i don't think i love it either. I'm on the fence about most of it.

Looks like the did indeed combine his w and r and gave it a pretty long delay... no more easy countering zed ult I suppose. But you can't be disrupted.. So sweet I guess

I feel like league does this thing where they take the arch type (In galio's case gargoyle) and tweak it to be unique in the league universe, sometimes this is great like Aurelion sol isn't just a dragon, but a cosmic creator or how warwick isn't just a werewolf but a augmented chimera vigilante, the mantra they use is "make archetypes not stereotypes" sometimes that can be a little alienating, a gargoyle is a winged statue that comes to life magically, and galio is still that for sure, but it's not as stereotypically gargoyle as it was before, not saying that as if it's a good or bad thing, maybe there's a line how far you can expand upon something from its source material before it stops resembling it's source material you know? I personally think new galio is much more interesting then the old galio visually but that's just my opinion.

Gameplay wise I feel old galio had a really janky kit with a really good theme, he was supposed to be a anti mage, tank/battle mage, but more often then not I just saw a mage that's job was to counter other mages, which is kinda unfun for the enemy, new galio still scales better with MR then any other champion (passive and dmg reduction on W both have Mr scaling) but his entire kit doesn't get stronger offensively for building defensively, which is a good thing game health wise

And personality wise honestly he doesn't sound cocky to me, the "I'm here, you're welcome" line in his teaser kinda left a bad 1st impression on a lot of dudes that set the tone for the rest of him, he's not supposed to be cocky but like, rowdy and joyful, he likes to fight and feels alive in the heat of battle (because he's asleep when he's not in battle) it's like a bizarre sion, sion loves fighting too but it's much darker then galio's love, sion loves to destroy and break and domminate, galio loves competition, similar joys but world's apart.

Also I don't have a whole lot context on old galio but "come back with more bad guys" has a ton of bravado in it, this new galio is just an expansion on that take of his personality

From someone whose been playing league for about 3 years now, i always loved the story and the design of old galio, because his story had so much heart and i loved playing support with his W and R, i never got to buy him so i was always hoping i could one day but this rework is just throwing that dream away, and its new design just throws the whole point of galios character out the window
