For example say in a dark future, Runeterra has lost the war against the Void and Atreus the host of Pantheon, now free from the Aspect travel back in time to change the future.
He is a much older person and wield a different weapon, his gameplay is different to the point where he could be of a different class and be play a different role.
I think things like that are better served with skins, such as Pre-Void Kassadin, Humsn Ryze, etc.
I could see them doing something like that for Zilean

it would be cool to see some champions as older or even dare I say younger versions of themselves (xerath and azir before they ascended) or even like you said a distant future that might not be the same as the one the current iteration of the champion is headed for, example a future where annies powers never got beyond her control and she eventually mastered them and returned to noxious where she became a general in the noxian army (though I think an older version of annie would be interesting anyway because she is the youngest champion age wise in the game)
Imagine the void succeeding in taking over runeterra, now no longer needing Malzahar they free him from their control, the freed malzahar asks Zilean to send him back in time and stop himself
With a whole new kit based on vision to focus on the part of his lore where before becoming the prophet of the void he was a Shuriman See-er, abilities like extended vision range, true sight, blind, nearsighted, unique Ward mechanics
I mean... TECHNICALLY we already have one, or two of them, its called Shadow Assasin and Rhaast... since none of them are from the present timeline of the lore.
