Taric and Gems

Looking at Taric's new design he still clearly has his gem motif and listening to his VO he still talks all about gems, but reading his lore...where are the gems?

According to his lore he just seems to be a protector of life and beauty, but where do gems and earth magic come in? It seems like the only reason new Taric even has his gems is that was old Taric's entire concept. I thought with Leona being the aspect of the Sun and Diana being the aspect of the Moon it would have been obvious that Taric would be the aspect of Earth and that would have gone right along with his old lore and fit with the other aspects.

I really like new Taric, but it's confusing to me that gems are all over his design and voice, but strangely absent from his lore.
