#2018 Lore Tournament: Day 22

Today is the last quarter final! Unlike the other three, there's no true theme for today's one, except perhaps the theme of great power, great insanity, and so on. The first story deals with this by showing us the tragic backstory of the corrupted mage Brand and his former mentor Ryze, while the second story elaborately describes the great power and great evil of the one and only Veigar.

From the Ashes by Aaron Dembski-Bowden Kegan Rodhe, the son of a healer in Rygann's Reach, once lived a life full of fear and mistrust, being the son of a mage. Now, he is the apprentice of Ryze, the Rune Mage, who is helping him to harness his own magical gifts. However, while Ryze tries to teach him to approach magic with a hand of patience, the young Kegan seems to be bent on finding a way to command magic with a hand of power, and burning vengeance...

It is indisputable that "Boleham tower" is among the best color stories we've gotten, ever. It's a special little gem with plenty of great qualities, the biggest of which is... swag. Swag galore.

That said Ashes outclasses it in every other way, is absolutely stunning in its dark, poignant, visceral beauty, and is my second favourite story this year so imma vote it.

Hmmm...either an incredibly tragic and meaningful tale about the nature of magic, power, and how it's treated...or another tale about incredible undefeatable power...of VEIGAR.

I think I'll go with...VEIGAR.

This is going to be absurdly close. I personally prefer the drawn out revelations of From the Ashes, but Boleham Tower is still my favorite champion color story in the lore.

I went with From the Ashes, but I'm fine with either winning to take on Icathia. What a battle that will be...

From the Ashes was cool really. In term of worldbuilding, etc... Buuuut... I'm not a Ryze fan. I don't really like him, and same for Brand. On the other hand, Veigar's story was also really great, and showed us why Veigar was a mage to be feared. Just personal bias here I guess. Both stories are really great, but I prefer Veigar over Blue boi and Fire boi.

Very different stories. I've gotta say that the scale of Kegan's story gives us so much context for Ryze and Kegan, and is an excellent tragedy regardless of its League lore implications. Veigar's lighthearted story has charm, but not quite enough for me to choose it here. Sorry Veig
