Major complaint about Yorick rework - He is not unique anymore

I've seen some posts raising these concerns and they're very valid. Ever since Riot released a gif featuring new Yorick 3d model and movement I've been deeply disappointed inside.

His look and feel, his unique creepy quirky hunched back, his lamp ffs, it's all gone. I think riot "caved in" and made Yorick into something much less unique and much more expected and catering to WoW, LoTR and other stylistic meta in game industry.

I'm not happy with this state. I doubt it's a choice that can be reversed. I want to hear your opinions and feedback on this. Riot has been my go-to when it comes to micro innovation and I'm very interested in the organic relationship it has with its players (and profit). I'm not sure where this is going.

EDIT: this is a re-post, since the original thread was removed due to being in inappropriate section.

Design and character throw away the sombre, lonely, ugly nobody that Yorick fans actually liked because it was a contrast to all the heroes and Jesus like characters in LOL and replaced him with a dramatic, hunky, manly, important guy with the exact same backstory as Ryze with a few words re-arranged, which just adds him to that Jesus pile. Pretty much takes a big dookie on Yorick fans and tries to appeal solely to the people that didn't like him.

Overall I feel like they really changed a lot about yorick, but I also feel like you are clinging a bit too much to his old style.

I mean his lamp for example never was much part of his character,it was just a little detail,so personally I don't really see it as such a great loss.

Similarly he is still hunched over and kinda creepy looking´,its different from before, but still there. The major difference is that he is now a bit less deformed,he has now an actual lower body instead of 2 legs that are stuck to his massive upper body and that his head is actually in a reasonable position instead of coming out of his chest area.

Though I can understand that you dislike the changes to his character, with him going from a kinda neutral guy to a heroic one as well as the fact that he does look more human(though I can also understand why riot decided to make him heroic, since the kind of neutral stance that he had isn't really well suited for storys)

look at the 10 previous champion releases/reworks and compare them to champions released back in season 1-3. Riot has lost their minds when it comes to creating originality and uniqueness in these chamion kits. Everything has to have "hard CC" to be good in this game.

I would compare this disconnect to descriptions on characters in the Game of Thrones (A Song of Ice and Fire) book series vs. how they appear in the TV series. For example, Tyrion is described in the book as completely missing his nose, having a large scar on his face, two different eyes and hair colors, hobbling around like a true imp, etc. Then you look at Peter Dinklage in the series and he looks like a normal dwarf with a tiny scar over his nose. I'm sure Yorick's written description and lore will paint him to be more deformed, abnormal, etc. but in-game he will still look orc-ish, scary, and kind of noble?

Hi! I've been thinking about yoricks rework and I feel like I disagree with you on Yoricks "Not being unique anymore." From a lore perspective, old yorick didn't really have a place. He was a grave digger, died, and became a zombie guy who was imprtant on the shadow isles for... not really well elaborated reasons. He didn't match the thematic of the isles, and he really wasn't a particularly special champ, he simply existed without being of much importance to any of the main storylines of the time. He hardly fit into the archetype of a "legend". Something many characters have in common is that they have made ripples in the world of Runeterra one way or another. Yorick had no reasonable place to be amongst them.

I was never particularly attached to old yorick, but I understand how one who was could be disappointed in his new looks. However, keeping to his green, hunched old self wouldn't make much sense with the established blue-green thematic of the shadow isles They may not have held on to his specific visual features you mentioned, but I think you'll find that they held on to much of his overall theme and character. Yorick seemed to be a grim character, not hopeless, but trudging through the dark for an eventual goal that he may not even achieve. He was a creature of prodigious patiencd. A person beyond death who was trying to accomplish the goals of their life despite the toll the years of solitude amongst the dead have taken on his mind.

Given, much of his lore isn't available yet, but I believe that the changes in his appearance have more meaning to his lore than his former "quirks" may have. Maybe as his lore is expanded upon, his new looks will grow on you?

I'm so glad and happy to read all of your posts. I wanted to attract people who have opinions on league lore, art and artistic integrity and I succeeded. Yay.

I wanted to cry when new Taric was released. Everyone else praised his cleavage(granted it is fabulous) and star powers.

Now it's Yorick's turn. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Prepare for when Warwick becomes a generic furry.
