Updated lore for Aatrox and the Darkin as a whole. Several short stories and some official artwork.
Very interesting.

"Regardless of what he would later become, Varus was once a paragon of loyalty and honor. A skilled archer of the ancient Shuriman empire, he was appointed as a temple warden in the eastern states, and he held this duty sacred above all else.
"During the earliest stages of the war with Icathia, even though it lay far from that cursed place, Varus’ homeland was attacked. While other wardens abandoned their posts to join the defense of the outlying villages, he alone remained, screaming in anguish with every arrow he loosed—for he had chosen to uphold his oaths rather than return home to protect his own family."
It took them a while, but they finally brought Varus' family and original personality back into the lore.
It's not exactly name-dropping Theshan, but it's an improvement to what he had previously.
I hate Zoe so much now, she is so sadic.
I'm really happy with the new breadcrumbs that were thrown out, like giving a name to the snake-Ascended and laying the groundwork for what would seem to be Morgana's eventual update. Most exciting to me, Valeeva sounds like she may be the sister Varus was looking for in his color story (the one that also preluded Naganeka's formal appearance).
Valeeva, you and your brother saw spite in every eye, and sought vengeance for slights real and imagined.”
Important to note that Naganeka, Valeeva and Cebotaru are the three who didn't die in the Twilight of the Gods story, so it's extremely likely we'll be hearing more about them sooner rather than later. Maybe we'll also be getting more expansion on the story of current Shurima, given the prophecy with the Chalicar.
Varus Bio is interesting too.
So now we have beast-gods and human-like ones, I guess Kayle being an Ascended of Shurima (much like Aatrox considering their look) is a given, Morgana being one of the Baccai (failed Ascended) too.
This may recieve some hate but: It feels like a really forced connection between things that were not created to be together.
I have joked many times about every champion being from Shurima, but this is too much... What is next? The Shadow Isles were part of Shurima in the past but Malphite separated it from the rest of the continent because the Bandle, a city from shurima of course, was too close?
Darkins were the Ascended?
???
I think it’s cool that Riot has been making more connections between factions, but adding Darkin into the Shurima/Void/Targon mix is too much for me. They are tying too many things into these three factions, and subsequently the world of Runeterra feels like it’s shrinking.
Give factions their own space to breathe and develop without being heavily tied up in these three places. I loved the Darkin as their own distinct species. It was an awesome opportunity for something new and imaginative. The Ascended direction that they’ve taken feels forced and has disappointed me.
That story was... confusing. I've only read Twlight of the Gods so far, it's long but doesn't really answer much. Confuses things. The idea of Darkin's being Ascended's is fine but it does nothing but question how. The Ascended's look nothing like Darkin, the Darkin are uniform, not unique like Ascendeds. It contridicts Varus story about being sent 'back to their world' and that was only out 8 months ago.
There weren't an army of Darkin, there were 5.
Also, their hints at what they will do to Morgana are too obvious, try harder Riot.
Is it just me or did Rhaast only get one sentence of additional lore?
