After the Ryze short there were tons of people being excited asf just because Sona was in it. Can anybody explain why does she have such a big fanbase? I literally dont see whats so interesting about her. (I just want to know why she has such a big fanbase thats all)
"Personality"
I was happy because she's my main, and she's my main because I like helping/buffing people.
As a Sona main, really most of us were just beyond excited that she's finally appearing in something because that means she's getting some new lore, at long last. And this was after being left out of both the Demacia and the Ionia lore updates
Beyond that, for most people find her very attractive, and really she's one of the most conventionally attractive girls in the whole game, right alongside Miss Fortune and Ahri, and while we don't know nearly as much about Sona as a person as we do them, there's the very real possibility that we will soon, and that's got us so excited.
Myself, I've always found Sona extremely attractive, and I think she has such a pretty face. She's a mix of pretty, and cute that just hits me in just the right spot to melt my heart, and I'm super excited for her new outfit because I think it just looks absolutely gorgeous!
She's a mature character. Compassionate, wise, kind, and a mute musician (which is always nice). She also a well-designed kit that's easy to pick up but can be powerful when mastered.
Also, she's beautiful. Not in the sexy, burning 'OMG SO HAWT' kinda way, but in the smooth sensual 'I could admire you all day' kinda way. If that makes sense.
Her fanbase is as large as her tits
Sona's old lore was just "she's mysterious" and didn't get developed beyond her League Judgement. Then, everything got retconned, and THEN she still got literally nothing for half a decade. This is basically the first sign she might be getting real development since her release.
Well...there are two big reasons...
Sona's kit has a large degree of consistency inherent in it. It's both easy to play but has room to learn and grow. It has some very easy to under-rate aspects like the area speed boost which can lead to either some mitigated losses or better clean up in team fights. She also has some pretty high base burst with passive+q which can lead to a kill on a low healthy enemy thinking they can kill the weak support post fight. Then there is her ult which guarantees that so long as she lands one good team fight ult her team could turn around a losing game.
Sure she's gone through all sorts of balance/meta ups and downs. However, her kit has always had some degree of that consistency. That means, gameplay wise, better feeling games cause there's always some hope. (until she's dead cause she's squishy as heck).
Take those gameplay moments. Match them with a cute visage and vocaloid style. You get Sona.

In context of the animation, I would assume people never expected a quiet musician to be in the short. I thought it was pretty neat on how amazing they animated her Crescendo that not only cast the targets into the air, but also froze them in stasis similar to a Bard Ulti.

Despite all the jokes about her "personality", Sona is the reason i know league of legends. she is so beautiful, elegant and mature, i melt every time i look at her. that smile alone!
She was fun and simple to play but powerful when mastered. i always liked the mystery surrounding her lore. then Journal of justice came along. i learned, she is a kind and charming woman, who not only does not complain about her disability, she embraces it and make good use of it. that's when i completely fell in love with her character.
Sure journal of justice is no more, but that's the Sona i know until today. and i highly doubt she is changed much, i mean hey she traveled across the country to help Ryze right? i've waited YEARS for this day.

I was excited to see her and I'm not even a Sona player. Sometimes t's nice to see some of the less popular champs picked for cinematics, not everyday Zed, Yasuo, Lucian, Ahri, Ryze etc...
What makes me smile is how everyone was so glad and happy that they saw sona for 1 or 2 secs in the cinematic

Well, to break it down shortly in a way that will definetly get my ass staked for the choice of words:
She is a mysterious musician with almost no background story other than a small buildup to explain why she is demacian, she is this all friendly, shy mute personality, basically the "Cute" anime girl, she is confirmed to have league's biggest bust size and is basically THE model image when any halfway sane hormonal teen tries to imagine league characters without clothes, and she has had consistent popularity spikes in picks regarding lanes and Item builds. Jungle is literally the only place she's not been meta in at least once and she only barely avoided being so. And her hair resembles Hatsune Miku. Then there is everything about her more scoped appearances and characteristics. She has, as you can hear from her vo's, a voice made by angels for fucks sake, literally she is the morgan freeman of league of legends. She also is very mature and pure, which adds an instinctual, more subconcious and carnal attraction. The way she is drawn and described, her eyes, her chinline, her facial proportions even her eyebrows are the very textbook definition of an Aphrodite, she is designed to be so pretty that even guys get jealous at her. and the worst thing is, i don't even like her, riot is just REALLY GOOD at making her character profile overloaded, but still fully functional. She is in almost every sense the stereotypical "Ideal" woman. And we know how human psyche works, they aspire for things they cannot have. because there is no such thing as an ideal woman, sona becomes this massive clusterfucks of things we really want, which transcends into a deep state of passion which then translates into admiration and BOOM you are now a fan of her even if you hate her. A good example for that is swain btw, he hates her as a person, but he cannot even try to deny her skill and grace and talent in both music and magic.
And as some people said, she is a stereotype egirl pick. Most popular streamers that play her are female, including the biggest female shot in lol's twitch bank, pokimane.
