It also must be said Ascended has vast power difference even among themselves. Most of them are much weaker than Nasus, Renekton, Azir and Xerath. Even weak Nasus killed another Ascended (darkin) just because he/she trespassed his library.
And let's not forget how terrified of the Ascended Jax is. He greatly respects their power and hesitates going in combat with any of them.
So, he was not alone in his fight with Ascended, and this Ascended was high likely Ta'anari level, which is medium tier Ascended that even ages. So, it is also how badass the Ascended are too, they terrify even a master of weapons, a combat god.
