Some honest thoughts on Eve's bio

I'm not a fan of the changes. They're not bad, persay, but I feel they're... lesser.

The short version is that I feel a hired assassin that feeds on her victims' pain has more story opportunities than a lust demon who specifically goes after happy people. If you're gonna heavily alter lore you should make the thing better. But making her an outright demon like this takes away a major component of her character.

The thing I liked about the old Eve was that she was... for lack of a better term, human-but-not-quite. She was clearly some form of supernatural entity, but the exact nature of it was unclear, and she also was human enough to engage in dialogue in person (see her old color story). She worked for contracts and got paid, though it was unclear why precisely she worked like she did or what she got paid in. It left her open to interpretation (Killing was her job, pain/seduction was her hobby.) The human element is completely gone in this new version, and I don't see why. You could easily have kept her hired assassin persona and expanded on her by adding the need to feed on pain/misery.

Other thoughts:

Why was she born from the Rune Wars (i get why in-universe, i mean from a meta perspective)? Is Ryze going to be her main antagonist now in a Batman/Poison Ivy sorta deal? (That doesn't sound too bad, actually...)

If she could feed off of the misery and anguish from the entirety of the Rune Wars, why does she need to lure people in now? Why can't she feed off of the depressed people she saw in her hunting grounds by walking past them?

The glob of shadow she started as. Where did that come from? We never get an origin story for Tahm Kench, just his name. But here with Eve we KNOW she was a shadowy, primordial thing before she became Eve. It takes away from the air of mystery and myth that makes Tahm work as a world-building element, not JUST a character. This is how Bilgewater interprets the demon known as the River King; what part of the world interprets Eve as... well, Eve? It sounds kind of like a Demacian thing (especially given Vayne's backstory) but it's unclear.

Rambling now. Thoughts?

Uhm actually,Vayne is likely her main antagonist(she killed Vaynes parents),but she will likely clash with Ryze as well eventually. Also she is probably the only villain at the moment who would love to see a new rune wars, which is a fairly unique position in the roster.

Because thats not enough. She needs pure pain and misery is alone is simply not enough for her.

Honestly the reason why Tahm is such a mystery is probably because he still doesn't have a bio, just a color story. And Eve was a mystery for several years now,it was time that we finally get something more about her.

Yeah and Tahm Kench's old lore was better before they turned him into a one-dimensional demon character too. Rito plz revert.

Pffft

That sarcastic comment is only in response to...

"If you're gonna heavily alter lore you should make the thing better. But making her an outright demon like this takes away a major component of her character."

I don't think either scenarios, demon or assassin would elevate the character any better than the other would. If one or the other was chosen for the update, the community would still love her regradless.

I've never cared for Evelynn as a champ, mostly because she's an asssassin, which is a role I'd rather let others on my team have than play as one myself. But I main TK and the idea of Eve filling in a similar place within the lore as TK peaks my interest enough to like her. Perhaps I'm just bias towards rework Eve because of TK but that at least means she still works perfectly as a cool character outside the Rift.

Other than that I agree with all your questions, so have an upvote regardless that I heavily dissagree on one account.

I'm also not a huge fan of her old lore. Before the rework they could of tie her storyline to other champions. Now I dont see what exactly they can do with it. She's just a demon that roams runterra and searching for meal. In what scenario she's going to meet any other champion? it's kinda hard to imagine

I agree with the 'story opportunities' idea. Old Eve had potential for better characterization and stories. New Eve is... well as you say, lesser.

A lot of it goes to Riot's new approach to having champions in 'The League of Legends' be actual Legends. Sometimes you get really cool champions who bleed personality like Tahm or Ornn. But although these champions are cool personalities, they're not deep or thoughtprovoking characters. They're just... mostly there.

For me, it goes back to the Bard effect. I recall a Rioter's comment (and I'm paraphrasing off memory here) that Bard's thinking is so celestial above ours that we can't comprehend his motives because he views things on a cosmic scale.

Like, who gives a FUCK about a character like that? Yeah, that's cool, but that's a concept or a being... it's like a cool sword like Frostmourne but not an interesting character like Arthas.

Then you get characters like Kalista, and the vast majority of champs since then which are basically really exaggerated 'immortals' with crap personalities. It's hard to build relatable or interesting character stories around them. Most of the stories just involve people getting killed off or showcasing their awesome power. Yeah, that's neat, but it's like a 'one shot and I'm done'- kind of deal.

Compare this to like, Touhou, where characters are given personalities, backstories, and their conflicts are shown which leads to a bunch of otakus crafting doujins and even more backstory comics. Some of the best Touhou comics I've read are just SoL stuff where they deal with their normal everyday problems WITHOUT resorting to just blowing fuck all out of it.

tl:dr - New Eve is sexy, but that's it. She still has a dark and mysterious past.

I don't like unknown origins. They just feel lackluster overall. She was an unknown entity? Great and what's is that about? No origin,no story she was just that without any insight.

New lore is a vast improvement, but I'm kinda confused why she's classified as lust demon, not demon of agony or demon aether ?

I don't think Eve really preys on happy people. The reason she was able to lure in the dude from her story, was that he was unhappy, for lack of a better term, deep down. He wasn't satisfied with how his life currently was. I think she goes after people who have a capacity to feel pain or have something to lose, that'll end up hurting them. That's why she didn't go for the drunk. It wasn't that the drunk wasn't happy, it was that he couldn't feel pain.

I wouldn't call Evelynn a 'lust' demon, she's more of a 'suffering' demon. She just uses lust to lure her prey in, then she makes them suffer for her own enjoyment, the bitch.
