Alot of people are convinced that the Watchers are indeed Void Born, which is fire to think that, but we mustn't just keep are minds close to this one theory.
Now on to how you said the statues look like Vel'koz, this is true in many ways, one they have that one singular giant eye, as well it seems to have tentacles. But do not be fooled that just because these tow have similar features they fore they are the same.
Who is not to say that those tentacles are horns? As well what if the giant eye is just a way to show the signal of them being Watchers? But then comes the answer of what are they? Are they human? Honestly, I have literally no where to go with that there is nothing I can give an example to as to what they might be besides Void-born.
That was the case until the Gnar promo.
That promo gave the biggest hint to what the Watchers might be and that Gnar, for some strange reason, may be more than just a link for yordles.
To refresh your mind here, there was one slide in the promo that showed Gnar and his family in the middle of a forest fighting off this thing with a giant singular eye. Sounds familiar right? Well indeed it does, it should really, but then how dose this relate to Gnar? Sure he fought this thing and all but what of it, it was a more simpler time back when Gnar was around.
The picture alone isn't enough to prove that Gnar may play a big factor in this, for you see, Gnar drew the pictures ( or so i believe) proving that he can recognize these creatures with ease. To also prove this, at the sight of these things, even a picture, he goes mad and turns to Mega Gnar, which enplanes the scratching on the picture.
So what do we know about Gnar know? He is smart, smart enough to remember something like that and to act on his feelings, sounds extremely helpful to anybody trying to stop the Watchers now a days. But then you have to ask your self, why is Gnar still alive? He must of evolved out it since hes around the modern times now. The answer is simple he was frozen. Frozen by whom you may ask? Anivia, she froze him.
Now lets recap this:
Gnar is smart, he can recognize the paintings of Watchers he made. Not only that but has a built in rage for them.
Anivia froze him, reasons why she did this? Unclear. But this was during the time when the uprising of the rebellion.
Now then before I just blow your mind there is one more thing I must offer to add more viability to the reason why Anivia froze him. Anivia isn't somebody to do something without a reason, giving the circumstances of the time, the freezing of Gnar has to be correlated to the Rebellion against Watchers. Now then why is this? Remember Gnar wasn't the only prehistoric yordle out there, there was a civilization of them out there. Considering how modern yordles live now, in a community, so did the the yordles of Gnar's time. What does this mean? It means that once Gnar was attack, the whole community knew, which means they shared his anger and rage towards these things.
Now here is mind blowing thing number one.
Gnar's species fought along side Avarosa. Boom. I'll let that sink in a bit.
Now then you ask your self, why would they have to do anything with the rebellion? And I, dear sir, point back to my last argument. The fact that Gnar's race lives in a community is the only reason they need. The moment Gnar was attacked the Watchers, the Watchers angered an entire species. Thus, whether Avarosa meant them to be allies or not doesn't matter, they had a bone to pick and no one was getting in there way.
Alright so that's mind blown number 1, here is 2.
They won that war, remember? That's why there is no more Watchers wondering around. Which means that Gnar's race must have really been the turning tide of this war. So what does Anivia do to ensure they have a back up plan in case the Watchers return. She freezes Gnar. Just Gnar? Maybe, or a whole family, but perhaps she only needs one after seeing how effective a giant army was.
And now for the last and final mind blowing fact.
Gnar was imprisoned in True Ice. What does that have to do with anything? We already know that Anivia uses True Ice in her spells, so what?
Well then I ask you then, how did Gnar get out?
And that's were it hits you! The reason why Gnar's race was such a giant turn around was the fact that they could break True ice. Something that can't melt or be broken. This is why Anivia froze them and how Gnar broke out. how do they do this? Who knows, but it has a connection with the rage gene.
Thanks for taking literally like 10 mins to read this but I do like this theory more than the one that states the Watchers are Void-born. Sorry but i would love to give a td:lr about this but I feel like you should read the reasons, sorry.
Oh yea almost forgot, what do I think are the Watchers?
Probably a giant animal, but that's for another time.
