#Loreworms How many forms of ascention and corruption exist in Runeterra?

From what I know the most common ones are Ascention through the sundisc and Corruption through the void.

Then aside from that when it comes to Ascention there is,

  • Becoming an Aspect of Mount Targon
  • Being worshipped until your faith takes physical form
  • Become one with a spirit
  • Wielding True Ice and becoming Iceborn

Then in terms of Corruption there is,

  • Being consumed by the harrowing mist
  • Being cursed by shurima's temple
  • Attempting to interupt/steal an ascention
  • Attempting to wield a world rune
  • Becoming a Darkin
  • Becoming a follower of Volibear
  • Blood magic

Are there any more methods? I'm really curious.

Technically speaking, in League's lore, the only ones who are really, truly 'Ascended' are the Shurimans who stood in the light of the Sun Disc, channeling cosmic power into themselves and mutating in the process. Furthermore, trying to steal Ascension doesn't exactly 'corrupt' you. Xerath is the way he is because he kept the ritual going for longer than it was supposed to and wound up absorbing SO much magic from the Sun Disc that he transcended his physical form altogether and wound up destroying a city. If anything, he's a super-buffed Ascendant.

THAT SAID, we DO know that you can fail an Ascension ritual and become a baccai; a sort of malformed abomination. That can count as a form of corruption.

Now that I look at it, there's a loooooot of things in Runeterra that could fuck you up beyond just dying. Taking both your mind and body and twisted them in cruel new forms.

i would like to know this as well, but in a form that isn't as scrambled.

what would being possessed by a demon, megalodon, kracken, or a tree be considered?

like swain, ivern, illaio, and pyke for example.

What would you define as ascension and corruption? Because I would say that both spirits that possess someone (e.g. Ivern) and spirit gods (e.g. Janna) are not ascended.

Black Ice corruption.

Well in your broad terms there is another possibility for Darkin: You can ascend by wielding a powerful Darkin weapon and fight the Darkin within (Base Kayn) as well as conquering a Darkin weapon (SA Kayn). Of course, there is also the possibility that you lose, and the Darkin conquers you. That would make your body more powerful, but because you lose your identity at this point, I would classify it as Corruption.

Then you can not just be Iceborn, there are other Elemental-Born as well (Hearthblood= Fireborn?) though it looks like this could be genetic as well.
