A Quick Fix: Explanation
I am back to explain some thoughts on Jayce's colour story. Just to make this clear I am currently working off the thought that Jayce and Viktor's lore happened when the very first Brakern heart-stones were brought to Piltover Glory in Death brought this thought to my attention in his thread here. This theory isn't backed up as factually as my last one and leans more on additional theories so take it as you will.
Alright so without further ado let me begin A Quick Fix is Jayce's colour story that takes place within 1-2 weeks after the final events of Jayce's bio. The last we saw Viktor He did not make it out of the building Jayce collapsed on him. For my explanation we're going to assume that Viktor's body is ruined and failing. Connected to some chem/steam powered life support Viktor is hardly capable of leading his evolution.
This is important because it gives us explanation on why Viktor attacks Jayce for a sliver of a crystal that may not be able to power more than the Mercury Hammer.
"He'd run experiments on Viktor’s discarded automata. He'd intercepted the mechanical communications. Any second, they’d beat down his front door and try to rip away his hextech hammer. After that, they'd try to do the same with his skull. "
The distressed nature Jayce's rambling leaves us unable to know how much is true and how much is paranoia. After all, we haven't heard the communications. We don't know how many of his thoughts are true and how many are just his own fear.
Viktor is desperate, if he dies the Evolution goes with him. Viktor can't allow that. We know that he is capable of making an entire machine body, but he doesn't have access to a power supply for it. (even if this story takes place while the knock off hextech crystals are around they are likely not enough to run that much for very long.) However Viktor is likely able to infer that Jayce has a power source that can power the Mercury Hammer. Something he was previously incapable of powering.
So now we've explained why Viktor is trying to kill Jayce. He's running out of options and time, but why mind controlled thugs? One could make the claim that again Viktor is desperate he's willing to brainwash people, and then possibly send them to their deaths. On the other hand, these could be people dedicated to his cause. We don't know what his interactions with native Zaunites were, or how long he was there after getting booted out of Piltover.
"Glass bounced off the makeshift umbrella like rain as a half-dozen men leapt down to the floor. Tubes of bright green chems protruded from the base of their necks, connecting to their limbs. Their eyes were dead, their faces emotionless. They were definitely Viktor’s boys, alright: drugged punks from Zaun’s sump level whom Viktor had pumped full of hallucinogens and hypnotics. Chem-stunted thugs who would follow Viktor’s every whim whether they wanted to or not. Jayce had been expecting to see automatons, but Viktor likely couldn’t have gotten so many through Piltover unnoticed. Still, these chem-slaves were just as much of a danger."
Jayce knows that the thugs are on chemicals, but everything else he assumes. Jayce has no way to know whether these are cutthroats from Zaun Viktor payed to do his dirty work, or desperate followers with a last chance to save their dying saviour.
"A hulking brute of a machine leapt down amongst the pile of unconscious chem-slaves. It looked, Jayce thought, like a cross between a minotaur and a very angry building."
You got me here. Almost blows a hole in my theory. All of my hard theorycrafting for not. BOOM Orianna. none of Orianna's organs were powered by a hex crystal, but by her heart and a wind up key for her lungs. Replace the key and heart with a steam engine (which we know can power a life form
) and now we can get an idea of how this machine came to be.
However you can't stick a steam engine in a person (well OK you CAN it's just stupid, don't want to go getting blown up by a kid), and viktor isn't a master of clockwork. Hence why Viktor could direct the construction of a machine while crippled but would be unable to uncripple himself.
So in essence Viktor and his acolytes at this point are desperate for a way to save Viktor. This is why they are willing to attack Jayce in his lab in Piltover. It's not for evil or revenge (although Viktor's acolytes may be most certainly are angry with Jayce for what he's done to their saviour), but for the survival of the Evolution.
My general goal with these last couple threads is not to say that Viktor is not a Villain, but that Viktor is not evil in the new lore. I'm trying to prove that some of the most black and white actions he is responsible for are perfectly capable of having complex reasoning behind them. The two I went over I feel are the worst offenders, and I don't want people to just try shoving them under the rug without diving into them because they're afraid they make Viktor into a monster. I hope you enjoyed the read.
