Ok, not really these models were made for the trailer, but could you imagine if we really had those soldiers in the game, like a rotating game mode that told stories of League's history or even current events that continue the world's story?
Seriously, it's a damn shame that these are only getting the spotlight here. I'd even say they'd be fun to replace the current minions for the VS event (but I know that's not happening).
Those models suffer from the same problem that the oldest minions had:
Minions are small to avoid confusions between them and champions, if you put humanoid looking minions in the game 2 things can happen:
A) They would be tall as normal champions, so, they would be confused as champions by some people. Notice that in the Video Darius and Garen use their ults on the warriors, and it looks good, because they have the same size of a regular human champ. B) If they make smaller models for the warriors in order to avoid confusion beteeen them and the champs, then, they would look really bad. That is what happened to the older beta minions.
So, those "minions" only work in videos, not for actual gameplay.
I agree, those soldiers look really good. I would even like them to replace the current minions, not just for events but permanently. It would bring more of an epic feeling to the game, making the lanes feel like an actual battleground, wouldn't you agree?
Current minions are easy to remodel while these are way to detailed, large, and need more animations. Im totally up for the ones in the video to only be part of this event, but not a permanent thing.
However, I do think Riot should implement a PvE mode, these new models might be used in that mode.
JUST Imagine if you log in on the day the event begins and you see the minions are like them. How great of a surprise would that be
