Let them come.

At Icathia, the Sunborn Ascended and their human followers were the sole defenders of Runeterra from the Voidborn. The magical mental deterioration, along with the regular mental deterioration expected from prolonged fighting, was also solely theirs to bear.

The Void is returning. But now there are many incredibly strong mortal and immortal allies to assist Azir, Nasus, and I sure as hell hope reascended forms of the remaining Darkin. (Since the return of the Sun Disc means the return of the ascension magic that has been gone for millenia, and the return of Azir may just be enough to unbreak the minds of his remaining brethren)

Ornn The Freljordian demigods are currently in preparation for the return of The Watchers (who if you weren't aware aren't just a Freljordian threat, but actually control the Voidborn). Rengar At least one Vastayan we know of, and probably the others powerful enough to be "champions", is/are on par with intelligent Voidborn. EvelynnSwain Demons would need to protect the planet, as they need humans to thrive and survive, or are being used. KaisaKassadin Humans have proven that they can overcome the magic of the Void. Ryze Wields power capable of devastating entire nations, and the whole reason he's collecting it is to protect the planet. Poppy Is the true hero who wields the legendary hammer of Orlon. Galio An enormous behemoth capable of nullifying magic, which seems to be the main form of attack for the Voidborn. Heimerdinger Urgot Jinx Highly advanced Hex/Chem technology and modern munitions. Zoe The Aspects of Targon who for some reason didn't help out the first time. Bard Who is here specifically to protect the fabric of the universe which is being threatened by the crossing over of the Void.

Karthus And hell, if none of that works we got this motherfucker to turn the mortals into wraiths, and keep on fighting.

Let the Void return. Runeterra is ready.

(I'm not saying we know they'll win-- despite the fact we do know for a fact they have to unless it's used as the excuse to shut off the servers--, just that there's a lot of defense this time around that didn't exist before)

I think we're far from ready.

Ornn The Freljordian demigods don't even know what's about to happen (since Voli got new lore with Ornn's release) Rengar Being on par with Voidborn won't be enough since the voidlings will most likely greatly outnumber Runeterran defenders and have some stronger voidborn in their ranks too (like Baron Nashor). Evelynn Swain Evelynn literally wants to start another rune war to feed on more agony, Tahm Kench's power is extremely situational, and we don't know what Swain's demon is capable of. Kaisa Kassadin Kai'Sa and Kassadin haven't been exposed to the void. They are merely surviving in the caverns below Shurima. Even the Ascended were not immune to the influence of the void, humans won't stand a chance. Ryze Ryze might be our best bet, but he's hiding the world runes outside of human reach, which might include himself. Poppy We have seen Poppy fight against large monsters, but the void might be on a whole different level. We just don't know how strong Poppy and the hammer are. Galio Galio is too far away from a void rift to join the fighting. It would take way too long to bring him there. And even then he would greatly compromise the usefulness of defending magic users. Heimerdinger Urgot Jinx Their weaponry will be useful against newborn voidlings, but might lack the power necessary to penetrate the hardened shells of older voidborns. Zoe Whatever the reason was they didn't help the first time, it might still apply today. Bard As arguably one of the strongest beings in the universe, Bard might be able to fight the void. But will he? He didn't interfere when the rune wars happened and as far as we know he didn't seal any of the void rifts. Bards motivations are too obscure to be able to rely on him. Karthus This won't work for two reasons. One, the black mist is bound to the shadow isles and would be unable to reach Shurima. Two, the void consumes all, including the souls of it's victims. This is part of what makes it so horrifying. If you fall against the void, there would be no soul left for the black mist to resurrect.

IIRC in the Aatrox Q&A on reddit one of the rioters claimed that Darkins are too far gone to actually care about Azir and Xerath's return.

It depends on the scale of the invasion really...That being said the ''mighty watchers ., masters of the void'' were defeated by their own minions( in the freljord).Sooo yea unless the void has a trump card i can not see how they can take modern runeterra head on..I dont even think that void can go past shurima to begin with..Xerath Xerath Xerath

edit 1 : As others already said modern weapons exist now....and if jinx has access to rockets then the goverment of piltover will surely possess much more destructive weapons.

edit 2: and yes i beleive that the watchers are completly stupid..

Tbh Jinx would be among the first champions to die. She's too weak and only has some guns.

AurelionSol catches a glimpse/senses the power of the being(s) that are in control in the void, and he's scared. the literal creator of stars who is Targon's attack dragon that closes rifts for them, is scared of what's in the void. Runeterra is gonna need some pretty heavy hitters to even contend, and I feel like the factions are too divided or absorbed in their own stuff to be able to form a cohesive and effective alliance against the void. at least not right away. If anything it will be like WWII, and the tides won't turn until one of the major powers decides that fighting for the whole world is more important than what they have going on. (not exactly like WWII, unless said power just doesn't help until the void attacks them directly. loose similarity I guess)

You know whats the big problem with this? There is no reason to assume that we have seen the cap of the voids capabilities.

The raven twins went insane when they saw a creature within the void,if that thing came out of the void, turning even ascendeds insane by its mere presence, then there is no guarantee that it won't just steamroll everything in its sight.
