A worrying contradiction in Malzahar's lore
Something that has been bothering me for quite some time in Malzahar's lore is the contradiction between his view on the world, and the explanation of why he keeps the dagger.
Malzahar has always been portrayed as someone who not only can see the future, but the inevitability of it. That regardless of what you do, no matter what happens, the future is unchanging. Regardless of the truth of that in the world of Runeterra, it was the "truth" that Malzahar found when he touched the Void. This future was set, and all that lay before him was the Void, so he let it take him.
However, the story behind Malzahar's dagger completely kneecaps that whole philosophy. The entire idea that he keeps it to, "remind himself that even a seer can’t predict the uncertainty of the future. There is always a chance things can change – for better, and surely for worse" completely undermines the inescapable future that he saw for himself. When all you can see in your foresight is the Void without exception, yet you hold onto a dagger that you use to to prove to yourself that you cannot know the future and that it can change, it says less that the future can get worse, but that you can change your own future away from your nightmarish prophecy.
I sincerely hope that the lore team is no longer holding onto this concept for Malzahar, as it changes both part of his core identity, and seems to be shoehorning in a possible redemption story.
