The comic changed my look on Ryze

I was never really fan of Ryze honestly. And I didn't expect the Ryze Rune event thingy to change that...But the comic proved it otherwise . This might look dumb but honestly this is the reason why I changed my mind about him. At the moment when Brand hit Kala he turned her head worried toward her. (That might be expected but I felt an emotion in him. That there is something left in the Ryze before the Runes) And when she gave him the rune and fell on the ground he simply didn't run away with the rune he wanted to save her as well. And when she wanted to stay and meet her sons...

"No, we leave together" That line really hit me like.....There is still humanity in him...He is not completely lost in his mission.... There is still emotion in him...

This whole post might be dumb but this is how I honestly felt during reading this comic...And I wanted to share that. This comic I did not expect to make me feel this way I really didn't expect...But it did...As always Riot with the amazing story and art... I'm glad that at least some group of fans appreciate this side of the League of Legends..because the people behind this whole world , music , art really deserve much more gratitude and attention then they get...they really worth something

Really glad you enjoyed it! The artist, Richard Isanove, did a great job of capturing Ryze (and Richard's colors! So good!). In a sense, I think Ryze would find his job easier if he didn't care about individual people, and was always able to focus solely on the big picture without guilt/doubt/remorse - but if he became that cold, would he even continue on? I think his humanity and empathy are probably part of what keeps him going, though it doesn't make his choices any easier...

Ryze comes off as a dick, but that's because he's centuries old, and nearly everyone he knew has died, some by his own hands. His own home village got destroyed by Runes, afterwards Ryze had to kill his own master, who was corrupted by runes, then Ryze killed his good friend Yago, also power hungry from runes, Ryze even left another whole village to die to ice trolls. So he no longer feels attached to anyone he meets. He's pretty much done at this point. All he wants is to find all the runes, and only then will he have completed his goal so he can disappear off the face of the earth to be with those who no longer walk Runeterra. My man Ryze be hurtin inside.

For real, I can't describe how they portrayed him, but they did amazing. The best way I can describe it is how Kratos from God of War was a cranky PoS that kills gods and is always going in because he had nothing to lose. But, the newest God of War displays him as a gruff person with a foggy past, but he is weaker than before, due to age and him having something to lose, his son. Ryze was always seen as an angry man with a goal, but in this comic, his humanity shines. 10/10 would read again.

I hate the champion so much because of his meme reworks, the story is very good. I did enjoy it but I just cannot accept it because it's just more special content for the same annoying champions that get prioritized for things.

That's one of Ryze's main character traits, and likely his biggest weakness. He's painfully human. Being cold and ruthless would probably make his job a lot easier. Wait, one of his lines in game he literally says that; "This would be a lot easier if I didn't give a damn".
