This quote (Cut off) was taken when a Red in the old forums explained the reason for ridiculous (Mostly female splashes, GEE I wonder why) body poses.

Our champions have very exaggerated proportions, some can shoot fire from their hands, and some can jump 30 feet in the air

The idea here is to communicate something that is not possible by a normal human. I will take some time in the near future to make a post where I deep dive into what we feel is our splash style. Right now the high level goals are: exaggerated comic book style character proportions and poses, high polish, but still hand painted rendering, limited color palettes with powerful accents, and dramatic lighting.

I can't tell if Riot is being serious about comparing fantasy qualities to art. Or maybe they're just complexly saying "We want to present boobs in the splash."

Not a excuse to twist bodies just because they're amazing HUMAN swordsmen, wizards and such. They're still HUMAN.

Who knows, maybe the "humans" in Runeterra are all contortionists (at least by our standards). Fantasy worlds don't have to follow rules and standards of Earth biology, since, well, they're not Earth. Just like how our laws of physics don't always apply to fantasy worlds.

It really is a weak explanation. In fact, in my experience such extreme designs simply break my immersion (re: Singed and Katarina splashes). If they seriously intend to replace all the current splashes with ones similar in style to those, then that might just impact my enjoyment of the game.

And yes, it is a video game and they're free to have a fairly large range of artistic license with the human body... but there are limits to what I'm willing to accept.

What I'm getting from this blurb is that everyone in Riot Games must be reading some very bad comics with very bad artists.

Since apparently their multi-billion budget isn't enough to spend on research materials, maybe we can all throw together some cash and send them Terry Dodson's run on Wonder Woman? How about Stuart Immonen's work on Nextwave? Mike Mignola's Hellboy? John Cassaday on Planetary? Fiona Staples on Saga? How about the entire recent run on Daredevil?

I can keep listing famous, award-winning comic books that have incredible art with exaggerated proportions and without grotesquely broken anatomy. They'll all drive home the point that the problem with modern splash arts is that they're not exaggerated, it's that they are distractingly misshapen.

That was about in game sprites not splash arts which I'm sorry there are plenty of females that have the proportions of splash art females. Freaking deal with it. The blatant hatred towards females with these figures is disgusting.

They are Runeterran Humans, not Earth Humans.

I personally dislike the new art style they got with the remaking of old base splasharts, but you can't argue that they are damn fine pieces of art.

Video games is still a predominantly male oriented pasttime. Yes, women play video games too, however the vast majority prefer games like animal crossing and candy crush. I'm not trying to be sexist here, this reddit post has many impeccable sources: http://www.reddit.com/r/truegaming/comments/2xa9a5/gender_and_computer_game_players_who_seems_to/

There's also the fact that League of Legends has a predominantly male player base. In fact, Riot reported that over 90% of players are male: http://www.destructoid.com/ul/236618-riot-games-announce-2012-league-of-legends-numbers/LoLInfoGraphic2012-620x.jpg

These facts combined show that for Riot to maximize profitability(the sale of RP) they need to create champions that are not only mechanically pleasing, but also aesthetically. The more 'sexy' a champion is depicted, the better their initial sales.

I won't rip on their detail-work and shading and whatever, because it's top-notch, but I've met high school Intro to Art students with a better sense of proportion.
