I just got back after three years, what happened to the lore?

I got back from a three year hiatus, and I heard about the map changes and all, but I just found out that summoners aren't a thing anymore, and a massive part of lore for why there are wars between them is gone. Has there been any progress on this? I'm really confused.

League of legends was retconned and most of the old lore isn't canon as well. The game is now simply not part of the lore anymore.

New champions(and champs whose bio was updated) have just a short summary in their ingame client and a full lore that gets posted on the web(the wiki is the best way to find these),these full lores consist of a bio and a small story(though a few champs who already got a short lore didn't get a full lore, namely Tahm Kench,Bard,Ekko,Rek'sai,Cassiopeia,Ezreal and Tristana, though some of them have other lore pieces instead)

They removed the Deus Ex Machina knows as Institute of War and retconned most of the gameplay explanation and instead focused on character story and interaction (Shadow and Fortune, Burning Tides etc. )

{quoted} So, the first two people to respond are those who aren't fond of the retcon. My suggestion is for you to ask the Elder Lore Wizard of the forum his thoughts and understanding of our current progress.

His name is Sharjo. He is the one that came up with the hypothetical timeline as well as a long post that was stickied here called "What we learned in 2015". He chronicles everything that's going on (and his What we learned in 2016 is 4 times the size of 2015).

If you want accurate information, speak with him.

I seem to remember another person who asked this question. Let me see if I can find it…

Ah! Here we go! http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/oyFLsWpR-ok-so-what-is-the-current-lore

The first comment is a summary by none other than Sharjo, the person I consider to be the Loremaster of League. And then if you want to start reading, go here (It's a list of all the stories I could find. I'm overly proud of it): http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/story-art/kJiEuXJA-a-list-of-every-story-i-could-find

I hope this helps!

It's essentially generic fantasy now, in a nutshell. Take out the League and sprinkle some edginess and that's it basically.

Good lore has come out, but it's all based on the falsehood the League was holding it back. Read and enjoy it, but keep in mind how much Narrative gave up without reason.

Essentially, a lot of the old lore has been thrown out, and Riot has done a lot to build individual stories for each champion and their world as a whole, but they haven't done anything to reintroduce general lore. Why are these people fighting in the League of Legends? What is the League of Legends? All of these are questions the old general lore answered, but as it's not canon anymore, we have no idea.

I suggest checking out Necrit on YouTube if you want to see some lore stuff. He makes videos basically reading through the lore with animations in the background. Here's a link to his channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiUHGAbtjCrLO3ZPrTfle3Q
