There is no form of animated portraits in the game at all be it loading screen or in game and i don't understand why...Starcraft 1 came out in 98' and they had moving portraits...almost 20 freaking years ago...anything would look good like the Jhin teaser had...idk, would just make the game feel more alive but that is just me

Not every champ has an animated version of their splash art. I think the first one was Khazix and his just moves slightly compared to newer ones. Then you take into account all the different skins that also don't have an animated splash and we end up with Riot having to spend a lot of time and resources to make it happen.

It would obviously be really amazing to add and if this game gets to the point that dota did and they end up making a league of legends 2, that would definitely be something to put in. But currently, they just have too much on their plate to go through every champ and skin, just to give each one an animation so they can add a moving portrait to the loading screen and in game.

Starcraft 2 portraits were not made the same way as leagues. League creates a static picture, which they then tweak to animate in a short loop for the login screen. Starcraft actually creates a 3d model for the portrait, which they can then animate and stuff much more easily. Can riot do that for all 133 champs? Yes. Is it worthwhile or beneficial to the game? Not really.

  • Not every champ has an animated splash art.
  • Some art is outdated or incorrect.
  • Some animated splash arts don't do much. (Jhin is just breathing. Taliyah has her hair moving, etc.)
  • At the rate of tweaks and reworks Riot is hitting now, the have/have not separation would be far greater.
  • There's far, FAR more pressing code matters than putting in animated portraits.

this is a good point really. its very simple. and very easy to implement. and if riot is worried about it taking up system performance starcraft 2 has a option to turn off animated portraits. they can do the same thing. they could even go so far as to have the in game character portraits mouth move and talk. would be a really cool simple addition to league. hell i would PAY for that if it was like a dollar maybe 5 to see my main man gangplank being salty at me

that would be very cool, and we do have the animated login screens so its not impossible

Ok, yeah, but do you really want a picture of Urgot oozing somewhere in your peripheral vision?

Brigadier Couch7/5/2016, 9:02:06 PM2 votes

why not just do make moving portraits on the ultimate skins?

Because they look tacky and dumb.

cos new client op and might be able to do it.

A sort of loading-screen model viewer where you can play emotes might be obnoxious as hell but it sure would be cool.

well, i hope you like spending $20 on a portrait/loading screen cutout, because that would be the price that they would make em if they ever did make animated portraits.

I think at the time (Budget wise) they couldn't. And in those games it's a moving model, whereas the thing you're talking about is an animation.

I tried modding it, but all I discovered was that that client does not support .gif's or .swf's as icons, neither directly nor with renamed extensions. It's odd, as the login supports it just fine.

Shouldn't take more than a simple copy-pasta (pun intented) of that particular bit of spaghetti code.

Starcraft 1 came out in 98' and they had moving portraits

Not to mention Warcraft 3 had an experience bar you could hover your cursor over, and see both the actual experience and the number progress directly. In this old bowl of pasta, you can see the experience bar go higher, but the overlay-number stays the same until you remove and return the cursor to make it refresh itself.

I keep saying it should be some sort of champ mastery reward.. But they'll probably make that shit $500 Hextech , like Vayne and Annie.

Because some people play on tosters (not me) and it already takes a lot for them to load into game
