Wasn't Lucian supposed to be a "holy" gunslinger?
Both character and skins seem to have fallen into the cliche gunslinger instead of holding the "templar" part of his title.

To be fair, he was never released under the "templar" title... The Gun Templar was the name that Riot used when they were developing him.
I mean, Azir was called "Seth, the Sand mage"... and he looks nothing like Seth.

Well Lucian is Demacian. Demacia's state religion is the "Lightbringers" and their members are called "Illuminators," "Radiant Ones," etc.
It isn't out of the question that Lucian is part of the Lightbringers and he was tasked with spreading the Light of Demacia across Runeterra, just like Lux was.
