#2018 Lore Tournament: Day 20

In the second quarter final, we have a competition between two stories about the Darkin. In The Cage, Aatrox contemplates his torturous prison, but wills himself to move forward nonetheless. In Twilight of the Gods, we learn how the Darkin came about from the once-spectacular Ascended they used to be, and how they were trapped inside their weapons.

The Cage by Odin Shafer Trapped inside the prison of his own sword, Aatrox struggles to find a new vessel who will grasp him and give him breath. Although the Darkin Blade yearns to finally end his existence of eternal imprisonment, for now, his unstoppable will pushes him on to achieve his tragic, brutal goal.

##vs

Twilight of the Gods by Graham McNeill Azir has fallen. Shurima is crumbling. Too many of the remaining Ascended have been scarred and corrupted by the Void, and have become Darkin. The panther Ta'anari, one such Darkin, speaks with Myisha, the former Aspect of Twilight, about what must be done to stop the violence. Little does Ta'anari know that Myisha has more in mind than simply stopping the corrupted Darkin…

[EDIT] Voting is finished and we have ourselves a Semi-Final between Principles of Strength and Twilight of the Gods

Based on my previous votes, it can probably already be guessed that I chose The Cage. I didn't like Twilight of the Gods very much, except for the interesting stuff with the main character and the other Ascended. But I like all of Aatrox's story, short as it is, because it really portrays his emotional trauma in an interesting, compelling, and of course, angsty way. So I'm giving it up for The Cage today.

EDIT: I can't believe I'm saying this again. Stop downvoting comments that just don't agree with you. It doesn't make you seem smart or right.
