For those of us who love lore, the sad fact is...

Look, I'm a MASSIVE lore hound. In every game i play, I scour youtube, the game's forums, reddit, etc to find out more about lore. Take the souls series - I've played hundreds of hours of it, and maybe even read/watched more about the lore. The story is one of the big reasons why I am playing. In lol though... so few people play for the lore that economically it really isn't a viable strategy for riot to care all that much about it. What they usually do is release themed events and/or comics that have the reason of "cuz lore". I dont fault Riot for this - it's simply true, and it's sad.

League of Legends isn't League of Legends without the League of Legends

I wouldn't say that most people who play games don't care about lore, but that they have a very shallow understanding of it. And they ultimately just want whatever seems cool, continuity be damned. This is true for every move/game franchise in existence.

The problem occurs when creative forsake their own narrative direction to cater to popular opinion.

A great example of this is Blizzard. Half of the shit they produce nowadays makes no sense. Its solely done for the purpose of driving more sales.

Lore is so important for me, if I'm going to main a champion, I really should like its lore, backstory and theme. Ekko is a fun champion, really. I like playing him but no way to main, zero chance.

If they had worked on lore more, lore would be better, no doubt. But we're going to see lore in only events, that's sad.

I really like events, and they should do more if they're not going to update lore excluding events.

I always felt the lore of LoL was an added seasoning on a great pot-roast. It's there to enrich and spice things up, give some actual value to an otherwise 100% shallow game. In addition, most of us spend our time honing our skills and improving our game knowledge. In souls for example, you finish a quest, you get more info about the story. In LoL, you finish a game, if you lose, you try to understand what you did wrong to improve uppon. If you win, you keep trying to increase your rank. None of which, have any connection to story and lore, they are purely for feedback purposes.

Now, given that MOBAs are pretty unimaginative, and LoL's not one of the pioneering MOBAs in the market, it's really weird how they chose to throw everything down the gutter, and rebuilt it from scratch. All the updates are great. And it's good. The thing is, what the fuck do they all have to do with the League of Legends? Why would any of the rebuild characters, cared about it enough to join?

Where have you been? Did you vanish for the gangplank lore event or had closed eyes for character lore?

Riot hired some good writers to re-write/write new lore quite some time ago. For a lore enthusiast you sure are one inpatient person, makes it seem like you just want something to complain about.

I want more Darius/Garen to understand when I say Garen You scourge of Noxus come here and let me show you a true battle or Darius You puny Demacins will tremble before the might of Noxus I'm referencing the lore instead of "Lel wut"

@OP, what you say is true. Across the board, games these days are becoming more and more geared towards casual players.

Casual players don't usually care as much about lore because they're only casually invested in the game and it's world. Those kinds of players don't care about lore.
