[Theory] My take on how Darkins, Targon, Morgana and Kayle interacted

The new Aatrox have left us with many interesting lines and lore that can help us finally clear out what happened to trigger the Darkin Wars, and how they became imprisoned, more will be known when the lore finally comes out, but I want to present my take on what actually happened, if it will be right or not, remains to be seen.

As we can see in Varus' Bio, it was wild magic what made the darkin come, the same Void magic that ravaged the whole Icathia to dust

"The mortal mages of Runeterra wielded wild magic, heedless of the consequences beyond their own world. Their reckless use of magic attracted the hunger of the darkin, who sent their fiercest warriors to conquer this new world. Varus traveled to Runeterra with the second wave of invaders, and with his crystalline bow, he assassinated enemy commanders and champions, helping the darkin defeat the mortal armies with ever greater ease"

But they didn't outright start a war, Varus was only part of the second wave, something had to happen to the first Wave, and we can more or less see what, thanks to Aatrox's lore

"Once honored defenders of Shurima against the Void, Aatrox and his brethren would eventually become an even greater threat to Runeterra, and were defeated only by cunning mortal sorcery."

What happened inbetween? We can make it out thanks to Aatrox's interactions, Targon interrupted and convinced the Darkin to unite with them and the Sun Empress Kayle to fend off the terrible Void, unleashed in Icathia during "Where Icathia once stood" and for some time, they did, they became defenders, and if the Ascended were the Sun, the Darkin were the moon

Aatrox confirm they did have another name before becoming Darkins, but something happened, something changed them, and made Targon consider them too dangerous, so they had to be destroyed. Aatrox's interactions give us clues about that too

Aatrox to a Voidborn "Do I resemble you, abomination? Your form isn't my destiny, is it?"

We though that the Void was melting the icathians and shurimans in "where Icathia once Stood" but the truth is, that it was melting them to transform their bodies into something different, as we know it can do, from its effect both on Kassadin and Jax's (Saijax Cail-Rynx Kohari Icath’un) bodies. No Darkin came unscathed from that, and those alien warriors that fought the Void were mutated forever, becoming something else

How do I know that? Because Varus was part of the second wave, the first wave of Darkins agreed to the double A, but Varus, being of the second wave, didn't get to read that memo, or fight the Void, so he could keep being beautiful, while the first wave became monsters affected by the Void, but powerful enough to stay being themselves.

The moment Targon betrayed and tried to destroy them, the war began with Shurima and Targon against the Darkin, and the second wave came to Runeterra

Aatrox to Pantheon : "Hail Pantheon! How noble and proud he carries himself, come betrayer... come...fiend" "Hail Pantheon! Let me hear your cry of friendship! Let me hear your scream of Brotherhood!"

Aatrox to Kayle: "Let me show you your error Kayle, you are not worthy of ascension!"

The war continued, and the Darkin were superior, but something happened, someone gave the mortals a way to bind the Darkins to an item, Aatrox its quite sure it was Zoe , but I'm pretty sure that the one that told them was actually the darkin Morgana . maybe tired of the war, maybe suffering cause so many died, she might have wanted to end this once and for all, and told the Golden Armored Queen Kayle the way to do it

Aatrox to Zoe "I know it was you Trickster, You gave them the tools to trap me! Let me kill you- A THOUSAND TIMES ISN'T ENOUGH!!"

The war ended, most of the darkins were anhiliated, and some of them were trapped inside their weapons forever and ever

Aatrox to Morgana "You would bind yourself to this realm, Morgana? Fine, let me show you the ground" "You disgust me Morgana, die in the filth of your bound flesh"

Morgana just wanted to save their people, and end the war, but all she got was extintion, she had been fooled, and all that remained for her was to suffer, but she wouldn't be that lucky to be binded in a weapon, for the Queen and Targon had different plans. When the time come for her to be binded and disposed off, she herself chose to be binded to Runeterra, as a way to atonish, or maybe as a bad decision in a moment of pressure.

Aatrox knows that Morgana is different in some way, buy he doesn't know why she bind herself to the earth, if only he knew that she was the reason for the suffering and fall of the Darkin...

More or less that is the theory, feel free to coment anything you wish about it, and if you find any plothole i missed, even better

A hitch - I'm fairly certain Icathia fell LONG after the Darkin War. There's still recorded history of the fall of Icathia, and people still know the rumors and the "curse" of the city, so it's at least only a few centuries ago that it fell. What we know from Varus' story is that there is no recorded history or recollection of the Darkin, so if Icathia fell before the Darkin arrived, there would be no recollection of Icathia either.
