Is that even a spear? lol Might as well rename it to another kind of weapon cause the new art is good. Maybe Falchion of Shojin?

Falchion's look like these based on Google:

OFF TOPIC:

I might be late but I'm very unhappy with the new look/splash of Infinity Edge. Don't get me wrong, I love that riot keeps on improving the game but the icon is a downgrade for me. It look very cartoony and for me, it just needs a lot of tweaking. Maybe the proportions are inaccurate, the head of the sword is huge specially the arrow part and the body going to the handle becomes thinner? like whut?

OLD VERSION: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/4/4d/Infinity_Edge_item_old.png/revision/latest?cb=20180507193702

NEW VERSION: https://vignette.wikia.nocookie.net/leagueoflegends/images/1/15/Infinity_Edge_item.png/revision/latest?cb=20180531105945

Maybe take an inspiration out of this reference that i saw on google. Crop its proportions and maybe its a better icon than those two. https://i2.wp.com/es.me/wp-content/uploads/2018/05/Infinity-Edge-Item-1.png

I even see an out cry of a reddit post about this. Riot I know you're better than this so please change it while you can.

Sorry if I offended you guys/riot but i'm just stating the truth so that you could improve the game, fix your mistake and make it appeal to players more

EDIT: As many have pointed out, it clearly is a guandao. I hope it will change to Guandao of Shojin or Shojin's Guandao. Thanks

It actually looks more like a Naginata.

Sukishoo6/1/2018, 10:36:30 PM5 votes

Definitely not a Spear. I get the original icon was like just a placeholder, but even that looked more like a Spear than this one.

For the IE, I don't mind the new one but I think they should have just made a completely new idea. The new icon is like just taking the style of the original and trying to reuse it.

looks like the end of a glaive to me https://i.imgur.com/XFgOUvk.jpg[]

The first moment I saw the art icon for the Spear of Shojin I instantly thought that is was inspired by to the Spear of Guan Yu. http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/CAMALOT/CCVII/SHUHAN/guanyu15a.jpg https://img00.deviantart.net/2ea4/i/2011/214/f/d/zhang_fei_by_akizhao-d42qkrc.jpg

The blade is way too short to be a sword dude. However yes, while still a polearm, the art very clearly shows a glaive, not a spear for some stupid reason.

Onotori6/2/2018, 12:49:05 AM2 votes

It's the blade on the end of a fancy Chinese polearm type spear. Not a medieval European spear.

New IE looks awesome to me. It looks more realistic looking than old unupdated comic looking splash art for the item. It also gives me a bit of that 3d vibe. Spear of Shojin sounds like a unique name, but since the splash art doesn't look like a spear anymore(or it's just an akward looking tip for a spear) then maybe they should change it. Or just somehow show that it's still a spear and not a blade.

But the real question is... Does it look like a Shojin?

Thefrostyviking6/2/2018, 10:16:43 AM1 votes

Looks like the top of the chinese spear type that the general Guan Yu used.

Wild Geese6/2/2018, 1:22:19 PM1 votes

It looks like a Guan-Dao, which is a bit like a sabre-spear.

The jade color in particular, does hint itself towards a chinese origin, thus the Guan-Dao... The spear yeilded by the legendary warrior Guan Yu- It's a spear too heavy for a normal human essentially, it was constructed to take advantage of his massive strength.

So it's pretty interesting actually (Who the hell is Shojin though?)>

.. The only thing I'd change is the edge of the blade doesn't appear well enough, it needs to be slightly highlighted.

the old icon looked like a shrimp.

Bjartan6/2/2018, 5:36:29 PM1 votes

Seems like a naginata to me !! Great visual tbh !

Praetor Notorias6/2/2018, 6:55:56 PM1 votes

It's the head of a rather generic pole weapon tip. A google for guandao shows lots of pictures similar to it.

Has a very Japanese/Chinese fantasy look to it, so I imagine it's a stylized Naginata. Wish they'd add in more things like Partisans, but ah well.

Bodhizapha6/4/2018, 11:09:53 PM1 votes

Its a pole arm head. Kinda of a spear, but not a sword like the OP was saying.

KSYN6/6/2018, 11:42:37 PM1 votes

Polearm designed for slashing. Spear or sickle are pretty close.

Jarring6/9/2018, 7:37:34 AM1 votes

it is clearly a glaive. all a glaive is is a single edged blade attached to the end of a pole. basically all polearms or spears that look like that are considered glaives. a guandao is a very unique weapon in comparison to other similar polearms like naginata and fauchards which are very generic. Regardless guandaos, naginata, and fauchards are all considered glaives, which is the proper term for an item of this class. Guandaos actually are commonly found to have an ornamental dragon's head fitting into the blade, so it does lead one to believe it is a guandao lol. I would still prefer to just call it a glaive, due to guandaos being chinese specifically. and a Glaive is just a pole with a single edged blade at the end.

if you look up glaive on google images, you'll find guandaos naginatas and fauchards, as well as even halberds and bardiches among other weapons. Though it's not completely correct to call halberds and bardiches as glaives due to them being more like axes rather than swords which is what the name of the weapon is derived from. You'll also find throwing weapons like chakrams and javelins as well, but that is completely fictional. game designers like to use the term glaive to define their fictional weapons, but it is not historically correct.

Though, tbh, it's actually probably just easiest to think of it as a sword on the end of a stick. Even if you were to call a halberd or bardiche a glaive, it wouldn't be wrong enough to correct. It honestly doesn't matter. The fact is that this is a very common spear.

CdogZelda6/10/2018, 10:08:06 AM1 votes

im pretty sure it's a guandao

It looks very much like Guan Yu's Quan Dao.

Is anyone going to talk about how broken that item would be?

flibitydoo6/2/2018, 12:47:10 AM1 votes

The new infinity edge looks like an anorexic version of the actual infinity edge.

like even the lightning looks more like veins on the icon now like it's a part of a body and it's malnourished.

Demonblade Talon6/2/2018, 1:06:55 AM1 votes

The artwork looks incredible.

at least the other one doesn't look like a 2 year old drew it on MS paint.. o

Phhase6/2/2018, 1:36:46 AM1 votes

Maybe a Guan Dao?

4G PnutCollida6/2/2018, 2:04:29 AM1 votes

Literally unplayable

Nøctμrne6/2/2018, 3:07:04 AM1 votes

I'm pretty sure it is a spear, it's just zoomed in on the blade portion. I'd look at pictures of Guan Yu for example. The one from dynasty warriors has a spear shaped exactly like this.

Pika Fox6/2/2018, 5:14:40 AM1 votes

Yes, that is a type of polearm.

AbyssmalHydra6/2/2018, 6:12:02 AM1 votes

Its a Glaive.
