Can someone answer this about Irelia's rework?

I know people have wanted a dancer/blade dancer for awhile. What I want to know is why irelia was reworked to be that champ?

I mean traditionally she usually builds TF and then goes into full tank. Maybe she picks up a second tanky bruiser item. Tanks and graceful don't often go together. Try slow rolling in Dark Souls for proof of this. So I look at the video and the first thing I notice is she seems to be a full on assassin now.

So I have to ask, why?

Traditionally she was whatever players had to do to get her to work.

But her original design intention was actually a melee carry. Personally I think it's good that they went back to that idea because she's a telekinetic blade user. The whole tanky bruiser who just smashes into you didn't fit her character design at all tbh.

Assassin's generally want to hide from combat and pick off opponents, Irelia is and always has been a Diver. She wants to get into the fight and make things happen.

Irelia was never intended to be that tanky, its just what ended up working the best(similar to how Eve used to be played like a fighter).

Also irelia was always the telekinetic blade user and that theme never fitted a tanky character.

Why on earth is a thread about a champion's kit been uploaded and discussed here!?

Taking a character's old build path and applying it as a reason as to why they shouldn't have been VGU'd to fit a theme better is not how character design works at all.

Irelia has always been described as a nimble fighter using telekinetic blades in almost all aspects of her lore, with nothing seeming to note that she's an unkillable juggernaut who marches up to you and just takes blow and after blow and doesn't seem phased by it. In this sense, Irelia's lore and original fantasy (the nimble fighter using telekinetic blade) was creating a massive disconnect between the class and build style that she had become as time and nerfs wore her out (bruiser). Because of this disconnect, they reworked her into something that fit her fantasy a lot better, and gave her the feeling of a nimble telekinetic blade user.

She will most likely not be building tanky anymore, because she'll most likely be geared towards being a higher damage duelist who can't afford to build too tanky without it impacting her damage output. I'd wager she'll build Trinity Force and that's about it.

As long as she remains as durable as Vi when diving, then I'm good.

That is if I ever get a working home computer to play league again. sigh
