Dark Side of Demacia

So first of all, I love what Riot's done with the factions in Runeterra now, they're very realistic and interestive. It's no longer "Bad Noxus vs. Good Demacia" and now it's a expansive, culturally inclusive and brutal Noxus vs. an archaic, medieval yet strong-willed Demacia.

Now I'm 90% sure that we'll be getting a Demacia event alongside the Galio VGU, but an issue I've always had with Demacia is their lack of any hint of their bad side in their Champion pool. Now sure we have much darker characters in the Demacian roster such as Lucian Vayne and even Shyvana (though I am fairly certain that by the time we get more Demacia lore, we'll get more detail on the nation's negative view on a half-dragon working alongside JarvanIV).

Noxus now has a few more positive features that stop them from being "The evil guys," and they also have Riven as proof of not all Noxians being super bloodthirsty like Darius or Draven. I want to see the same from Demacia, with a character who shows that shows the negatives within Demacia, and the closest thing we have to that is Fiora's backstory as she tries to regain her family honor. Something I've always wanted was an escaped prisoner of Demacia, or something along the lines of a criminal who is completely against Demacia's system.

JarvanIV How dare you talk about the Great Nation of Demacia having some sort of Dark side to it. Take them away.

Garen DEMACIA!!!!!

Riven isnt quite good. She has Morals but that doesnt quite make her good. She had little problem going to war and help take land. What she didnt care for was them massacring villagers and soldiers alike without a chance to fight. She left Noxus for that reason.

That being said this does leave room for growth as a character.

Dark character from Demacia or being A secret evil in the heart of Demacia would definitely be interesting.

I would love to have a pre-teen Lux story where she discovers her magical powers for the first time and her brother (teen Garen) helps her keeping them secret, fearing that they might be persecuted by their family and the king.

It would be pretty cool to have a clear contrast between the old Demacia of Jarvan III (authoritarian, repressive and unaccepting of everything that's "out of line", like Lux's magic or Taric's failure as a commander) and the upcoming Demacia of JarvanIV (more open and progressive, considering his relationship with a half-dragon Shyvana).

Kayle is the darkest we have so far for Demacia because she's an extremist. But her story is neutral like Morganna's (it's purposely unclear who is right and who is wrong because differing morals).

I'd like to see a fat Demacian noble that acts as an enchanter or controller support. Or some members of the nobility that is an abuser of the system (the most evil we can get for a character that lives in Demacia is one that abuses their system for their own ends).

They don't give a flying fuck about the prurifiers, they are more concerned with fucking around with Noxus than to care about what happens on the world stage, but at the same time, if they did they would be more like America.

Personally, what made me hate Demacia was the sheer hypocrisy of their Ideal's. they create child solider and create them to the point where they are hollow regardless of their outer personality while hating magic. They want people to be free but not if you are a woman, then you are just a tool for them and hell if not for the families being so high up, they would end them for such defiance that Fiora displayed, that is just sexism and something that makes me think that Noxus has the moral high ground in spite of their own misdeeds, at least in there society, they don't give a damn if you are a soldier, an assassin or a sorceress, just as long as you can kick ass and not be a coward, you'll feel more at home than anywhere else.

Not trying to toot my own horn here, but I've created and posted Champion Concepts on here that try to explore a possibility of the 'Dark Side' of Demacia. I've always wondered if Demacia had a dark side to it, because, let's face it, ANY country, real or fictional, is going to have a dark side to it whether they like it or not. It's a matter of HOW that dark side goes about accomplishing its goals, dependent on WHAT those goals are.

With Demacia, I think their dark side could be their pursuit of Justice, but using methods that could be considered 'questionable' when applied to "Justice". Or something along those lines. Just my two cents since their wholly-consuming desire for Justice is all we know about them right now.

There is currently no "good" associated character with Noxus. Riven defected and no longer pays allegiance to Noxus, and is therefore, not a valid "gray area" when it comes to Noxus. Noxus is still grossly painted as evil, warmongering, and malevolent. Demacia is still painted as noble, righteous, and good, though the implied xenophobia in Demacia does hint at a darker side.

Take Zaun as a good example of a city with a good split of good and bad. You have Ekko, Janna, and Zac who portray the good of the city, while you have Singed, Warwick, Mundo, and Viktor who portray the bad. You can clearly see Zaun is capable of producing those who want to help and those who want to hurt, yet still swearing fealty to their home city.

Demacia and Noxus do not have this same dichotomy, and it's getting to be tiresome. I'd like to see a lawful evil religious figure emerge from Demacia, who twists the laws and beliefs to his power hungry ends, somewhat like an Inquisitor. I'd also like to see a military figure in Noxus emerge who values merit as well as has a conscience, and is unwavering in trying to correct the wrongs her country has committed through reform or something. Point being, there exists ways to make characters in both cities who break the current stereotypes, but we have yet to see it.

I don't think that Shyv is a bad guy, but I don't like demacia in general. I feel like only poppy, shyv, and lux are the truly good demacians. Also, while Darius might be bloodthirsty, he's actually a good guy. He's trying to return Noxus to its former glory, not what it is now.

iirc, Galio, Swain and then Urgot are getting VGUs next after Warwick's, right? That seems the best time to do a Demacia/Noxus lore event/update.

After Zaun's, o'course. We're already doing Piltover, gotta do the rival city.

The fact that Lux was press-ganged and brainwashed into the Demacian Military is the main point of lore I don't want retconned when Riot gets to Demacias lore update. That's pretty flipping dark.
